Perro Aguayo, Jr. Dead: Wrestler Dies After Accident In Ring During Match (VIDEO)
Mexican wrestling star Perro Aguayo, Jr. died during a match in Tijuana on Friday, killed after an in-ring accident during his bout with onetime WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr. The 35-year-old, also known as El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo, collapsed against the ring ropes and never got back up, even as the match briefly continued before anyone realized how seriously he was injured. He was eventually taken from the ring and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead early on Saturday.
The exact cause of death is still the subject of conflicting reports and debate, but it’s believed Aguayo sustained a neck or spine injury during a stunt gone awry. An initial medical report indicated that Aguayo died from cervical spine trauma after Mysterio’s dropkick caused him to land at the wrong angle on the ring ropes. That has not been confirmed. Video of the fatal match has surfaced, and Gossip Cop is posting it below. Warning: While there’s nothing specifically graphic about the footage, it shows Aguayo following the accident that ultimately cost him his life. It is obviously disturbing.
The late wrestler was the son of Perro Aguayo, himself a lucha libre wrestling legend in Mexico. He had been competing in the Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion (AAA) professional wrestling promotional organization off and on since he was 15 years old. See the video of his final match below (clips and the full thing), if you so choose. Again, it’s upsetting footage.
