Perez Hilton is bit off key and “premature” on Kevin Eubanks leaving “Tonight Show”

Perez Hilton, who can’t be bothered with fact-checking, titled a post, “Leno’s Sidekick Leaves The Tonight Show,” when, in reality, Kevin Eubanks has NOT left the show.

According to Hilton, “Kevin Eubanks, Jay Leno‘s trusted bandleader and sidekick, has decided to leave his longtime gig on The Tonight Show. Kevin admitted he wanted a ‘change’ and is hoping to pursue other opportunities. Rumored to replace the band-man: Hootie and the Blowfish crooner Darius Rucker.”

Since Gossip Cop does fact-check, here’s the real deal.

An NBC source tells Gossip Cop that talk of Eubanks leaving is “premature and inaccurate.” In fact, Eubanks has been shooting promos for the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” which returns March 1.

It is true, though, that Eubanks spoke to the show’s producers, and said he would like record and tour more. “He’s coming back, but he’s talked about wanting to take time off” for his outside music projects, said the source.

The source went on to stress that, while a Eubanks departure could occur down the road, right now it’s “premature,” and talk about replacements is off base, especially Perez’s speculation that Rucker will take over.

“No one’s looking” for a new band leader now, said the source.

Gossip Cop will follow this story as Eubanks and the producers have further discussions.

    Okay so Perez is a moron. Just my opinion on that one. but, he’s funny sometimes. But, when he gets his news he never gets it right. Oh and Darius Rucker is a country singer now. LOL

    Sarah, Kevin may be taking a break but not quitting. 2 different meanings here.

    Isn’t that funny Sarah? A lot of media outlets were reporting that he was leaving yesterday, yet GC again chooses to only focus on Perez. They are obsessed with him.

    Look, it’s Dawn Marie, that jackass blogger for Perez or one of those other sites who hate Gossip Cop for being so damn accurate. Maybe Gossip Cop singled out Perez because he’s the only fool who reported that Eubanks “leaves” the show, which he hasn’t, or that Darius Rucker is the new bandleader. That’s complete stupidity. How are you going to defend that Dawn? And Sarah, Gossip Cop didn’t say Eubanks isn’t leaving the show. In fact, they said it was would probably to happen down the road, though he’s still with the show. And frankly, Dawn, since I read that the guy who started Gossip Cop used to produce for NBC, and probably knows a lot of other people there, I am going to believe him more than Perez.

    Hey Nicco–THANKS! Couldn’t agree more with your comments! Considering how Perez hasn’t been accurate–at all. Gossip Cop spends most of the time correcting his smears, untruths and continual screw-ups to set the record straight–so, if telling the most accurate news is classified as “obsession”–YAY for Gossip Cop!! Maybe if more sites pointed out how awful and misinformed Perez was, he would cease to exist–here’s hoping.
