Perez Hilton is a Poe excuse for a reporter

Today Perez Hilton writes, “Not True! Joaquin Phoenix Not Playing Poe!”

What’s interesting about that headline is that Gossip Cop exclusively busted the rumor Joaquin Phoenix was going to play Edgar Allen Poe TWO DAYS AGO, while at the same time Perez initially called Phoenix’s being (reportedly) tapped for the Poe role an “Inspired casting choice.”

Whoops.

Now, Perez has done an about face.

But what’s also interesting is that for today’s reversal, Perez cut and pasted reporting from ContactMusic, which noted Phoenix’s rep “tells GossipCop.com the star will not be appearing in the picture.”

Huh?

So rather than going to the original source (Gossip Cop) to admit he was wrong, Perez links to a third party, which rightfully gave Gossip Cop credit.

We probably shouldn’t expect more from a guy who still blocks us on Twitter.

Um, you do the same thing. There has been stuff that Perez has posted from other sites and instead of going after that initial site, you go after Perez. Like with the NPH Oscar scoop. It was initially Deadline Hollywood posted that NPH was doing a duet with Martin Short as an exclusive but instead of going after them, you after that lightweight Perez because he is the easier target.

  • Dawn Marie says:

That should be you went after.

  • Nicco says:

Once again, it’s Perez’s apologist Dawn Marie… You are SO predictable. But like your employer Perez, you are every bit as dumb as he is. Whether Perez picks up a story from elsewhere or heaven’s forbid reports one of his “exclusives,” if it’s wrong it’s wrong.

And what I think Gossip Cop is saying is that he never checks where he’s taking stories from to see if the story is true or not. Like here, Gossip Cop called Joaquin’s rep and they said him doing the Edgar Allen Poe movie is not true. But your boy Perez doesn’t even check. So Perez should either not repeat stuff he doesn’t know about or he should check like Gossip Cop does to see if stories are true.

Comparing them is really like comparing rotten apples (Perez) and oranges (Gossip Cop).

It’s seriously crazy how you defend his bad reporting by deflecting and saying he took it from someone else. He shouldn’t be taking anyone’s reporting in the first place and if he does, he should check his facts.

For the Oscar story, Gossip Cop checked and they reported there wasn’t going to be a Neil Patrick Harris duet. They were right. Perez could have done the same thing but he’s lazy and stupid.

Maybe you should spend less time trying to criticize Gossip Cop (for doing a great job), and more time praising them for giving us all accurate reporting!

Nicco, point well made. Dawn Marie, who everyone knows is a hater/jealous blogger, is as you say, “as dumb as” Perez. Like Nicco said, you missed the point. Don’t “deflect” Perez getting the story wrong because he stupidly took it from a bad media outlet.

He got it ass backwards, whether he came up with it or stole it from another place. And wrong is wrong.

    Gossip Cop doesn’t “do wrong.”

Thanks Gossip Cop doing it RIGHT!

Gossip Cop, are you East Coast or West Coast-based?

I love reading about Perez screwing up stories. It’s honestly as if every other story he reports is 100% incorrect.

  • QDM says:

Perez gets it wrong AGAIN! Dawn Marie gallops in to defend her “innocent angel” AGAIN! And that’s a wrap folks!
I know Perez is job security for you Dawn Marie, considering his oh so bad track record, good gig for you! (If he’s not paying you for all this support–you have to be a relative…..)

  • No surprise that this rumor is incorrect. I’ve studied the Poe AND the Mary Rogers case and the original posting on Perez Hilton said that the sound designer was talking about creating soundscapes for 1854 New York… Poe died in 1849! The Mary Rogers case is really interesting – I read a book about it written by Amy Srebnick. It was the first real tabloid murder in the United States, and the only real murder that Poe investigated. It also is interesting from a feminist perspective as it was the first real public exploitation case – no attention was paid to Mary Rogers’ life, but a lot of attention was brought to her death and mutilation. She was depersonified in the process. I hope this film is being made, whether or not it stars Joaquin Phoenix – because it’s a great story.
