Don’t Believe Widely Reported ‘Version’ of Paul Giamatti Cash for Pics Rumor

Truth rating: 1

A ridiculous rumor making the rounds today claims Paul Giamatti is charging fans to take pictures with him.

After winning for his performance in Barney’s Version at Sunday’s Golden Globes, Giamatti supposedly “charged two people five dollars a piece (sic) to snap a pic with his statue during the CAA after party.”

At least that’s what Us Weekly reports in an item called, “Paul Giamatti Demands $5 for Pix With Him and Golden Globe.”

But the story is wildly exaggerated, and Gossip Cop has what really happened from a source close to the star.

After Giamatti walked out of a party, a couple approached him and asked to take their photos standing with his award – but not with Giamatti.

The actor was amused and let both the guy and the gal snap shots of themselves holding his award, jokingly adding that he’d charge $5 for each photo.

After the man actually handed him a $10 bill, a surprised Giamatti asked, “Are you kidding me?”

“I’m totally joking,” Giamatti told the guy.

“Keep it,” the man insisted before walking away.

Doesn’t sound like Giamatti “demanded” much of anything, although maybe some fact checking would have been nice.
