VIDEO: Patti Stanger Defends Controversial Gay Comments on ‘The Joy Behar Show’

“Millionaire Matchmaker” Patti Stanger set off a firestorm on Sunday night when responding to a gay man who called into Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” and asked about monogamy and long-distance relationships.

Stanger blurted, “There is no curbing the gay man.”

She then turned to the show’s openly gay host, Andy Cohen, and said, “I have tried to curb ‘you people.’”

Since then, Stanger has apologized.

She took to Twitter to express her regret, and said in a statement, “I am so sorry,” adding, “I did not mean to offend anyone with my comments last night on ‘Watch What Happens Live.’”

On Monday night, she taped an interview with Joy Behar for her HLN show — to air on Tuesday — and tried to defend her statements by saying the rules are different in L.A.

Stanger told Behar the caller said, “Everyone here’s a player. I can’t find someone who wants a monogamous relationship.”

The matchmaker added, “Straight or gay — [L.A's] player town.”

But Behar wasn’t entirely buying Stanger’s explanation.

Check out the video clip below from their interview, and tell us what you think.

Patti Stanger makes outrageous comments every episode of her hit Bravo show. She crossed the line implying all gay men are cheaters, but she is right about one thing: it’s hard to find people in LA who are serious about relationships. Hollywood is a monster.

I can’t with Joy Behar though questioning her with all her mishaps over these past 15 years on The View. Joy Behar is so judgmental I can’t stand her sometimes. And I’m a liberal! lol

Stanger is lying about the context of her response about gay men not being able to be monogamous. The caller never said anything about not being able to find a faithful gay men. He simply asked “what do you think about open long distance relationships?” and, after establishing the caller was gay, she went on her diatribe about all gay relationships being open. I don’t think she hates gay people; I believe she supports gay marriage. However, she doesn’t even understand how offensive her assumptions about “all gay” people are. Just because you aren’t anti-gay doesn’t mean your stereotypical opinions aren’t offensive.

I honestly believe she didn’t mean to offend the gay community; she just talks as she always does on the show, not saying she didn’t offend anyone, but that’s her experience on her show with the gay men and maybe she should have been clear. But she apologized and it seemed sincere so that’s what matters.
