Patti LaBelle Sued After Bloody Bodyguard Incident [VIDEO]

VIDEO

(Fox)

Patti LaBelle is being sued by a West Point cadet after a bloody confrontation with her bodyguards at Houston’s Bush airport on March 11.

In the surveillance video belowRichard King is waiting outside the airport near LaBelle and her two bodyguards. The tape then cuts to the two men beating King, leaving him badly hurt. He’s eventually carried out on a stretcher.

However, what the tape does not show is King allegedly harassing LaBelle’s team, according to Houston police. King supposedly punched LaBelle’s limo driver, forcing the bodyguards to become physical with him.

Shortly after the incident, LaBelle is seen taking photographs with fans just feet away from a pool of King’s blood.

Law enforcement officials claim King was drunk and hit his head after falling, and that his harassment provoked the confrontation.

King’s lawyer claims he did nothing wrong, and that he was attacked for no reason and without warning.

He must have done something… otherwise, why would the bodyguards approach him like that? He seems to be talking pretty straight, so why can’t he continue with football?

  • Phoebeleejames

Those body gaurds attacked that guy for clearly no reason, I CAN SEE HE DID NOTHING WRONG IN THE VIDEO!!!!!

I only see the car away from the man not when it was up to him. Just a scam for money. The lawyer is in on it too.

Really a shame. I think he had a few drinks, was feeling frisky and mouthed off when he shouldn’t have. He definitely looks drunk to me in the second phase of the vids, he was staggering all over the place and I don’t think it was because he hit his head. He basically chucked a promising career and a fully paid education at West Point over a few too many drinks and now he’s looking to get a fat pay day from LaBelle to make up for it. I think he’s going to lose.

The video’s picture quality was very unclear to me. I just know Patti Labelle’s been according to my father who knows her personally for decades a very friendly, classy woman. He knew her when he worked as an A&R man with Gamble and Huff.

for all you know, the video of him staggering around, could have been him being assaulted by the bodyguards…we wont know because of the blind spot from the footage

I don’t know. He is 23 years old and probably doesn’t know who the hell Patti Labelle is. How can you assume he isn’t staggering because he hit his head? Only part of the video is visible. And at any rate if the “bodyguards” were acting more like bodyguards and not thugs, they would have approached him and told him to get out of the way. The police acted unprofessionally as well.

If Patti LaBelle ordered his beating for no apparent reason, I despise this bitch who I have always admired and if founf guilty she is dead to me. What a horrible thing to do to an innocent young man-hope he gets that fat whore.

I had the misfortune of meeting this b-i-t-c-h in 1990 and she was the rudest, most nasty person I have ever met. I knew her true colors would someday be shown. When I met her, she was so nasty and kept giving me dirty looks, and shaking her head while looking at me. She didn’t want me there because I was white. It was clearly evident. I have worked in the music industry for many years, having met many people of all colors, and love all music, but she is hugely racist. Whereas Tina Turner is the sweetest person in the universe. LaBelle should take a cue from Tina on how to treat people, maybe she’d sell out huge international arenas like Tina does…..Na, that’ll never happen. Hope this poor guy wins. Karma’s a bitch and so is Patty LaBelle.

apparently, he was standing too close to her luggage and she order the bodyguards to tell the guy to move…the guy was talkin on his phone, bodyguards (bgs) approached, looks like bg 1 pushed him, so he pushed back and then next thing you know, fist are swinging..seriously…to have 2 bgs beat up one guy is horrible and low of her as a celebrity….his career of football and his ranking in the Army is already suffering…and then to have POLICE take a photo with her after the incident is beyond words…i’m speechless…he’s the victim but yet he’s the suspect…also, if he did start with them, why havent there been charges filed against him???

looks as if they are having words with him before he gets knocked the flack out…wrong answer I guess…

  • Carl M.

The vedio does not allow us to hear what was being said, but it certainly looks like King was just talking on the cell phone when LaBelle’s lugage arrived. From what I could see the first bodyguard was pushing King backwards and King pushed him back, clearing allowed as self defense. Then while still on the phone he is punched in the face. I never saw King punch anyone. Clearly the bodyguards over reacted and I suspect lied to cover their involvement in a crime (battery) and that’s why they didn’t press charges. The police didn’t appear to do their job (and I say that as a retired police officer with 33 years of service). This should be investigated further. Also if king was treated at the hospital the doctors would have certainly ordered a blood alcohol and drug tox tests done, what are thoes results.

the “second phase of the vids” doesn’t show the first phase, where he was punched nearly unconscious and attacked by three brave, classy men. he looked just fine before that. nice try though.

  • Easy3maw

Goes to show ya. If your are black you can gang up on whittie. Beat him down. and walk away. Let A single White guy hit a black person and the entire freaking blk community comes out and protest and roit. Reguardless if he said something. Why was he jumped.??? HPD gets in trouble for pulling a black guy over much less hitting him. HPD should be ashamed of themselves.

  • http://mikkifine.net Mikki Fine

Even if the cadet was making trouble it should not have taken 3 gorillas to beat him up. HPD had the audacity to call his school and get him suspended. King can’t even continue playing football because of his head injuries. I hope he sues and wins. I am sick and tired of celebrities getting away with murder.

‘He must hve done something….” Next time a Black person is beaten by police, I’m sure that’s what you’re going to say: “Oh well, he MUST have done SOMETHING.”

More likely the “something” was not getting out of the way quickly enough when this has-been singer’s 300-pound gorilla ordered him to move.

The nice touch in the video is the police sergeant posing with Patti at a crime scene. Classy!

Exactly right Carl M. These asses assumed they were a protected, special class of citizen who could tell anyone they chose where to stand, while protecting a celebrity’s luggage. Turns out they were right. A cop who shouldn’t even be on the force railroaded the victim, then posed with the perps for a feel-good picture. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t promise him an “extra job” doing security when she plays in Houston. Or maybe the just paid him in cash on the spot. Too harsh? Why? An assault took place. If the cadet did it, charge him. If the “body guards” did it, charge them. Instead, let the gorillas go, slander the cadet by saying he was drunk while charging him with nothing, and make an unprecedented call to West Point to ruin the kid. The cops f*cked up doing a celebrity a solid, got caught on tape, and are now doing character assassination on the cadet for cover.

patti labelle completely screwed this guys life up and doesn’t even care. Down with divas Down with private armies. Down with cops that don’t investigate. And the photos by the blood pool? It shows you the the kind of person we are dealing with here. poop.

  • PunishThugs4GoodofAll

Up until recently, courts held that words are not sufficient provocation to justify anyone for hitting another person. No matter what words were exchanged in this incident, three grown men battering one man who does not appear to pose any physical threat to ANYBODY is outrageous, and looks criminal on the video. Absent some very compelling evidence that this man posed a threat, these three should be prosecuted for several felonies, and should pay restitution to this man for the wanton brutality of their unwarranted attack. This kind of thuggery has to stop!

  • PrettyLilLady

Why bring race into it? If you want to pull that card, a black person would win every time. Don’t forget that our young black men have been the targets of racial profiling for years. If my brother ( a personal banker) goes out to the store at night with a hoodie on, he is more likely to be stopped by the police for bullsh**t than one of his white counterparts. We had a (white) murderer escape from prison last year, and he was on the run for month, then finally a white cop noticed him walking down a backroad in the country……stopped him…asked him if he needed help..failed to check his identity…….and then LET HIM GO BECAUSE HE SEEMED LIKE A NICE GUY not realizing that he had just let a murderer run free. You rarely see footage of a white GIRL being beat by police, but you damn sure can google lots of footage of black girls being beaten. These stupid ass white pricks have no respect for black people and typically use excessive force when detaining a black person. I have been to bars full of stupid ass drunk white boys that start fighting an throwing things and not one of them got arrested. The $hit is completely unfair! I personally have never had any negative experiences with the police, but I know people that have .

  • Houstonian

He was standing there before whoever patti is came there and even if he mouthed off something you can’t just beat them up. If any of the above people know law then it constitutes an assault.
I think people in the comments above are totally biased as they assume that King is at fault and Pattie is a saint. She should be held accountable for her actions also. She cannot think or assume that the place where she stand (airport/a public place) is owned by her.
By the way even he (king) mouthed off something then why didn’t they call police. Looks like the police were busy taking pictures with the diva.

  • flynmonkees

Richard King was not “falling down drunk” before he was ASSAULTED. We know Richard’s sister and we know how hard he has worked at West Point; this is completely out of character for him. Don’t trust the police interpretation. Our son was assaulted in the same manner outside a movie theater, and sustained a serious life threatening concussion (he was hemorrhaging in both frontal lobes of his brain). He had been knocked absolutely unconscious and was bleeding from his nose and the back of his head, but because the inept police on the scent smelled alcohol on his breath (he and his friend had a bite to eat and a couple of beers before the midnight show), they determined he was “falling down drunk” and he spent 36 hours in jail before we could get him to the ER! They even had the attackers in custody, but let them go – no names, no crime – right? If there is a public altercation of any kind, why aren’t all parties involved taken into custody until the matter is appropriately resolved? Where do police get their medical training that certifies them to determine the degree of a person’s [internal] injuries?

  • 8107

Where is the respect for a white person a military cadet ? Patti was not in any danger looking at this video it appears the assault was racially motivated to me as Johnny Cocharan said, ” just because he is white don t make it right”

It is shameful the violence and ugliness exhibited. As mother of teenagers, all of who have no idea who Patti Labelle is, she certainly is not a truly famous celebrity at least to the upper class, since we wouldn’t know who she was if we tripped over her. This nice young man clearly didn’t. What a sad sad commentary on those who think they are “famous”: no one knows or gives a flip about this nasty ugly woman who would pose for pictures after her employs demonstrate senseless brutality. I hope it costs her untold millions to settle this and her bodyguards serve time in prison.

Wish I would have been there when those bodyguards jumped on that kid. I hold two black belts and have over 30 years of martial arts training and I would have laid them s-o-b so-called bodyguards flat out on the ground in less than 10 seconds. It’s a shame that west point jumps right into action and sides with HPD without hearing all the facts of the case. Pathetic!

They put the luggage in front of him, but he was standing right next to her Limo, the Limo was out of view of the camera, so he needs to move, he needs to move, he did not like getting pushed so he pushed back, you don’t do that with a security detail, he is a dummy.

Nothing good ever happens after or around Midnight and he had been drinking at dinner, another don’t do thing called Alcohol, man you don’t get it and your children don’t get it.

He was a football player and he got knocked around like gumby, your kicking would have only pissed that huge guy off and you end up on top of your head with the black belt around your neck.

  • Richard May

Rosia: First, I am very biased in support of police officers. Having said that, this article does not include quotes from two airport employees who witnissed the whole event. They were traffic personnel. They state very clear, that Mr. King did nothing wrong other than apparently be too close the the luggage. The only way Houston PD can come out of this other than being Celebrity Fans is to recognize the mistakes in not asking for more input at the scene. My son would never had made this mistake.

  • Mark Johnson

There’s nothing wrong with drinking some beer on a plane and then waiting for a ride; even if you’re near some old pop singers car. The only thing more innapropriate than the way those security guards went after that guy is the way Patti Labelle attacks a ham sandwich with a side macaroni and cheese!

A private citizen is a nobody, star’s and VIP are protected and need to be protected from private citizen’s, private citizen’s tend to kill people.

  • Anonymous

Both Patti LaBelle and Richard King are private citizens which means that they both have the same rights under the law.

WARNING!!!!!, If you try to engage me in a debate on this subject I will embarrass you using pure logic.

  • Anonymous

Did you miss the whole thing about private citizen’s kill stars? Look at the longer version of this video, you will see Richard King taking snap shots, not waving his arm like every claims, he got right up to the limo and the party and you can see his arm extending outwards right next to their faces! At the start of the video he also stumbles to the right, while snapping a shot. Where’s the big money? This happened months ago and no money has changed hands, West Point will not back him up he has more issues, more information from fellow classmates is what we need to hear, not his family.

  • Anonymous

Show me a law that says a star has more rights that a non star. You can’t because there isn’t any. He was in a public place and since he was there first she had no legal right to demand that he move.
Why isn’t there a reply button on your last post? Is it because You know I will counter your celebrity worshiping post with pure logic.

  • JohnRFun

It looks to me like King is drunk. If you look at the whole video he walks down the middle of the road staggering and swaying before stopping by the limo. No one else walks down the middle of the road, just King. Everyone else walks in appropriately designated areas. King then gesticulates next to the limo, with no apparent awareness of the people trying to load luggage around him, and no apparent concern for the fact that he is now in their way. His response is not reasonable. He does not withdraw to somewhere quieter. The way I read it the bodyguards respond with unreasonable behaviour to a drunk.
