Patrick Swayze Dies at 57

Patrick Swayze, who will be best remembered for the films “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost,” passed away today after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Swayze was 57.
His rep released the following statement: “Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months.” No other details were given.
Despite being gravely ill, Swayze began work on a memoir and shot the A&E show, “The Beast.” Earlier in the year he discussed his life expectancy with Barbara Walters, saying, “Two years seems likely if you’re going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I’d better get a fire under it.”
On a personal note, Gossip Cop met Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi back in 1990 when he opened the New York restaurant Mulholland Drive Cafe. He was gracious and accommodating from our first encounter and every time we ran into him after that. He will be greatly missed.
