Patricia Arquette Deactivating Facebook After “Friend” Harasses Her

Truth rating: 10

(Facebook)

Patricia Arquette is deactivating her Facebook account after a “friend” on the social network began to cyber-harass her.

Not too long ago, as an experiment, the actress decided to Facebook “friend” regular folks who she didn’t personally know.

In one of her last posts on Facebook, Arquette explained, “The experiment was… Could a celebrity actually friend strangers and get to know them as a person? Just a regular person ? Could you really become friends? Could you move past all that they had in their mind about you and actually show them the real you?”

She answered, “I would say on a large part yes.”

But without getting into specifics, Arquette noted that about 10 days ago, her security team alerted her to a problem brought about by “friending” strangers.

Then, in all caps in her post, Arquette warned her nearly 3,000 “friends,” “I ASK YOU NOT TO FRIEND ANYONE HERE THAT YOU DON”T PERSONALLY KNOW!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE ON THIS PAGE DOESN’T REALLY MEAN THEY ARE SAFE!!!!”

The “Medium” star said she’ll stay in touch via Twitter, and again warned everyone to “be safe” and thanked them for “sharing your love, humor and sadness with me.”

What do you think about Arquette “friending” strangers? Have you?

I think it was an interesting experiment and she was brave to try it, but unfortunately there are just too many crazy and unstable people in this world. And she is right about but friending anyone you don’t personally know. I learned from experience.

I NEVER friend strangers. If someone sends me a friend request I will ask them who they are. If I don’t know them I don’t friend them. Think about it — not only can they turn out to be an unstable person. That’s bad in itself. But an identity thief could be looking for anything that would give him enough information to be able to steal your identify.

BTW – does anyone know why her hair is blue?

…………….I can’t believe….My best friend’s mom makes $77 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $5487 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here CashMany.com …...

    so, it matches her eyes…

I really liked her on Medium. Sorry her experiment did not work. Sad that we can’t all just be and let be. The celebrities get a bad rap for not being normal, but when they try this happens.

I wouldn’t have done this on facebook. Facebook just isn’t designed for allowing strangers access to your life. It brings together too many elements and invites your friends into the lives of your other friends and their friends and so on, giving crazy people access to too much information – especially as you are often not sure precisely what they are seeing as fb privacy settings can seem a little complicated. Twitter is really a better medium for this kind of thing.
