A conservatively dressed Paris Hilton faced Judge Joe M. Bonaventure in a Las Vegas courtroom this morning, and, as expected, entered guilty pleas to two misdemeanors, drug possession and obstructing an officer.
When the judge asked if she knew the meaning of her plea deal – and the fact she was giving up her right to a fair trial – the socialite issued a series of “Yes, your honor” responses.
When asked specifically about the events leading to her arrest in Las Vegas last month, Hilton admitted she “was in possession.”
The judge then asked her to clarify what she was in possession of, to which she answered, “cocaine.”
In regards to the charge of obstructing an officer, Hilton admitted she lied to the police, telling them “that the purse wasn’t mine.”
The judge then formally sentenced her to two consecutive six-month jail terms, which were suspended on the condition she pay a $2,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service, complete an intensive substance abuse program, and stay out of trouble for the next year.
“No new arrests or citations [excluding minor traffic violations] while this case is pending for one year,” the judge warned her.
Otherwise, the heiress faces a year in jail, which the judge noted “is not the Waldorf-Astoria,” where she lived when she was younger.
“The purpose of this is to change your conduct,” he said, adding sternly that if she doesn’t meet the terms of the agreement, “You will serve one year.”
