Paige VanZant Drops Out Of “Kickboxer: Retaliation” Movie
Paige VanZant has dropped out of the kickboxing movie that was set to be her film debut.
As Gossip cop reported, it was announced last month that VanZant would star in Kickboxer: Retaliation. In a role written specifically for her, the UFC fighter was slated to play a character skilled in both combat and gunplay. With a targeted August release, she would’ve appeared onscreen with co-stars Jean-Claude Van Damme (who is known, in part, for the Kickboxer franchise), Gina Carano, and Dave Bautista.
But VanZant revealed on Thursday she’s chosen to back out of the project to focus on her sports career. The former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant told ESPN’s Hannah Storm during a “SportsCenter” appearance that she’s planning to fight Bec Rawlings in the “UFC On Fox 21” MMA event taking place on August 27 in Vancouver. As such, she won’t have time to shoot the film role.
“I’ve recently declined to be in the Kickboxer movie because I want to be 100 percent for this fight and train 100 percent,” Paige explained. “That movie filming was kinda gonna get in the way. We couldn’t get a date set that worked with my schedule.”
It’s unclear if the part will be re-cast, or if the film is being rewritten. It’s also not clear if VanZant still intends to explore acting in the future. Check out the full interview below.
