Oscars In Memoriam 2016 Video: Watch Academy Awards Tribute Montage To Stars Who Died And Dave Grohl Performance
The 2016 Oscars on Sunday featured an In Memoriam tribute to stars who died over the last year. The montage was accompanied by Dave Grohl performing “Blackbird.” Watch below.
The touching segment honored some of the acting greats we lost since last year’s Academy Awards. Among the beloved Hollywood figures included were Alan Rickman, Maureen O’Hara, Anne Meara, Omar Sharif, Robert Loggia, Christopher Lee, Wes Craven, David Bowie, and Dean Jones. Other entertainers and industry professionals featured were Melissa Mathison, James Horner, Jerry Weintraub, Taylor Negron, Lizabeth Scott, Theodore Bikel, Richard Corliss, Alex Rocco, Holly Woodlawn, Richard Glatzer, Daniel Gerson, and Leonard Nimoy.
Inevitably, each year someone is usually left out. Whether by accident or an intentional omission due to time constraints, the snubs sometimes overshadow those who were included. The montage, though, is still a poignant, moving reminder of the film industry’s meaningful contributions to the arts over the years.
Grohl follows in the footsteps of Jennifer Hudson, who provided the music accompaniment at last year’s Academy Awards. The Academy did not reveal in advance that Grohl would be performing for this year’s edition. While he was a previously announced performer, it was not said during which segment he would be taking part until he was introduced by Louis Gossett.
And in contrast to his normally rockin’ style, the Foo Fighters front man was subdued, fitting with the subject at hand. Check out video of the 2016 In Memoriam below.
