Oscars 2016 Sketch: Black Actors Get Roles In White Movies (VIDEO)
The 2016 Oscars featured a hilarious skit in which Chris Rock and other black actors were edited into scenes from a few of the year’s most popular films to mock Hollywood’s attitude towards people of color. Watch the #OscarsSoWhite parody in the video below!
Host Rock introduced the videotaped segment by noting that even worse than all of the acting nominees being white is the struggle for a black actor to get a substantial role in a movie. The sketch then kicked off with Whoopi Goldberg being superimposed into a scene from Joy, in which she mops up behind Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who plays the inventor of the Miracle Mop in the film. Goldberg says, “A black girl would have to invent a cure for cancer before they would even give her a TV movie.”
“Saturday Night Live” cast member Leslie Jones then replaced the bear from the infamous attack scene in The Revenant. While mauling Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jones yells, “There are no black actresses in this movie!” Next up was Tracy Morgan, who channeled Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl by cross-dressing and literally earing a danish while mocking a scene from the film.
And finally, Rock replaced Matt Damon in The Martian. In the faux scene, NASA employees Kristen Wiig and Jeff Daniels are less concerned about saving a black astronaut stranded in space than they were with rescuing Damon’s character in the actual film. Watch the #OscarsSoWhite sketch below!
