Oscar Nominations Snubs 2017
The 2017 Academy Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday, and while many deserving actors, directors and films got nominated, there were also plenty of surprising snubs. See below who was left out from this year’s Oscars.
Amy Adams was left out of the Best Actress category for her performance in Arrival, despite having been nominated for the role in many awards shows leading up to the Oscars, including the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Adams was also snubbed in 2015 when she failed to score a nomination for Big Eyes after winning Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy at the Golden Globes.
Also enjoying a notable awards season run up until Tuesday’s Oscar nominations was Hugh Grant, who many expected to nab a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Florence Foster Jenkins. Additionally, Tom Hanks’ turn as real-life pilot Chesley Sullenberger in Sully failed to receive any recognition, similarly to in 2014 when the actor was snubbed for Captain Phillips.
Aaron Taylor Johnson won the Golden Globe for Nocturnal Animals and scored a BAFTA nomination, but is nowhere to be found on the list of Oscar nods. Also, Martin Scorsese’s Silence failed to score a nomination for Best Picture or Director, as did Clint Eastwood and his film Sully.
Meanwhile, Annette Bening and Taraji P. Henson weren’t recognized for 20th Century Women and Hidden Figures, respectively. And two of the biggest animated hits of the year, Finding Dory and Sing, were left out of the Best Animated Feature category.
