Oscar Pistorius Not Guilty Of Premeditated Murder; “Culpable Homicide” Possible
Oscar Pistorius is not guilty of premeditated murder, a judge declared on Thursday.
The former star athlete can still be convicted of culpable homicide in the Valentine’s Day 2013 shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Judge Thokozile Masipa ruled against the most serious charge Pistorius faced after determining that witness testimony may have been contaminated by intense media coverage of the trial in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The double-amputee track athlete wept as the decision was announced.
He could still be found guilty of culpable homicide or be acquitted.
Pistorius shot Steenkamp dead in their bathroom on the morning of February 14, 2013.
He maintains that he had mistaken her for a burglar and killed her accidentally.
Prosecutors allege that he murdered Steenkamp in anger and on purpose.
Masipa has adjourned the trial until Friday.
Gossip Cop will have updates.
