Oscar De La Renta Dead, Fashion Designer Dies At 82
Oscar de la Renta has died, Gossip Cop confirms. The fashion designer, who created the gown worn by Amal Alamuddin for her wedding to George Clooney, passed away on Monday after a lengthy battle with cancer. De la Renta was 82.
The fashion icon first gained fame for being the designer of choice for Jacqueline Kennedy. He subsequently dressed other first ladies, including Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama.
De la Renta was also a favorite on the red carpet among numerous celebrities, including Kristen Stewart, Oprah, Penelope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Cameron Diaz.
De la Renta, who was born in the Dominican Republic, worked with the top design house before branching out on his own. He first apprenticed with Cristobal Balenciaga before working in Paris for Balmain and Lanvin.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, and said last year in an interview with the International Business Times that “the only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die.” He added, “We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life.”
De la Renta is survived by his second wife Annette Englehard. His first wife, former French Vogue editor Francois Langlade died in 1983.
Gossip Cop met de la Renta on several occasions, and remember him as a a true, debonair gentlemen.
