Orlando Shooting Tony Awards Video: Watch Tonys Pay Tribute To Victims
Sunday’s Tony Awards paid tribute to the victims of the Orlando massacre, the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Watch below.
As Gossip Cop has reported, gunman Omar Mateen opened fire early Sunday morning at the LGBT nightclub Pulse in Orlando. Approximately 50 people were killed, and another 50 were injured. Mateen, who had taken the clubgoers hostage, died in a shoot-out with police.
A few hours before the Tonys ceremony, organizers announced in a statement, “Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected.” And on the red carpet, a number of stars were asked about the tragedy.
Then, at the top of the show, host James Corden said, “All around the world, people are trying to come to terms with the horrific events that took place in Orlando this morning. On behalf of the whole theater community and every person in this room, our hearts go out to all of those affected by this atrocity.”
Corden went on, “All we can say is you are not on your own; your tragedy is our tragedy. Theater is a place there ever race, every creed, every sexuality is equal, embraced and is loved. Hate will never win. Together we have to make sure of that.”
“Tonight’s show stands as a symbol and celebration of that principle. This is the Tony Awards,” he added. Watch below.
