Busting bad dish!

Conservative Group Demands JC Penney Fire Openly Gay Ellen DeGeneres

Truth rating: 10

One Million Moms, a project of the conservative American Family Association, is targeting JC Penney for their decision to partner with Ellen DeGeneres.

The retail giant, in the midst of an overhaul, recently announced that DeGeneres would serve as a spokesperson for the brand.

But “family values” watchdogs at OneMillionMoms.com are calling for action against JC Penney, declaring that “hiring an open homosexual” like DeGeneres is a poor business decision for a company hoping to court “traditional families.”

Calling DeGeneres “not a true representation of the type of families that shop at [JC Penney],” OneMillionMoms.com advises the store to “correct their mistake” and “not turn away potential new, conservative shoppers with the company’s new vision.”

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is jumping to DeGeneres’ defense, blasting OneMillionMoms.com and asking shoppers to show their support for JC Penney.

“Selecting an out performer who has inspired and entertained millions is not only a smart business practice, but a reflection of how LBGT Americans today are an integral and valued part of the fabric of our culture,” said GLAAD official Herndon Graddick in a statement.

To collect support, GLAAD has started a “Stand Up for Ellen” online petition.

One Million Moms should start living in 21st century and stop judging people by whom they fall in love with!

  • Ham213

I’m sorry to hear that there are still ‘one million’ ignorant moms in this world. How about they focus on all of the wonderfully kind things Ellen’s done for countless people? THAT’S the type of person who should represent any company in America. And WHY are these ‘million moms’ so preoccupied with Ellen’s sexual preference? Maybe THEY’RE the closeted perverse ones…

  • Janet

If they give in to this witch coven, I will never buy another thing from JC Penney.

  • Janet

Anybody who is preoccupied with somebody else’s sex life probably doesn’t have much of a sex life of their own.

  • Ham213

Oh, and to add…I’ve never really shopped at JC Penney. But, as a ‘traditional’ mother of four with a husband and two dogs…I most definitely will shop at JC Penney now. They made an excellent, progressive, non-ignorant choice with Ellen as their spokesperson. WAY TO GO JC Penney. You just increased your patronage by one big ‘traditional family’.

WOW that is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard! Her sexual orientation has nothing to do with anything whatsoever. If you don’t agree with another person’s decision than ignore them or mind your own business. No need to try to pull some heinous act like this because she is a lesbian. The most stupid thing I have heard. I have 2 step children and I think the “moms” making these comments should be more open to other people than hindering their children and making them live in a ridiculous bubble of nonsense. UGHHHHHHHH. Grow up!

  • TJ

Yea get a clue onemillionmoms this isnt the leave it to beaver age, get with the times and stop hating! Its people like you that put hate into children at such a young age. If you dont like the country the way it is get the hell out!!!!! And take your hating kids with you!

  • I just Can’t…….

onemillionmoms should stop looking to judge and see past Ellen’s sexual preferences. She has done more good than I can count on and off camera and shows more love than most proclaimed Christians. Her sexual preferences should have nothing to do with what she does. How sad that these supposed caring “MOMS” are hung up on this. Maybe they should be worrying about hunger and homeless people in our country instead of Ellen representing JCPennys’

The only thing One Million Moms will ever accomplish is raising millions of uneducated, socially awkward kids. If you want to bubble wrap your kids and keep them away from “bad” things, then censor what they see in the world. Don’t make the rest of the world conform to your failed birth control.

  • Krissu

I already found the petition and signed it!

  • Mrs. J

Well with 7 billion people in the world.. I think it is safe to say Penny’s could live without the support of these ignorant million that seem to think they or their opinion matter.
I, as a “traditional mom of 2″ with no J.C.P close by don’t shop there often, but I WILL NOT shop there again if they let this group win.

  • French Flies

It’s simply heartbreaking the things that supposedly Christian people focus on while there are broken families everywhere who need a helping hand. I blame the American churches that are so preoccupied with persecution that they strike first. Pharisees are timeless.

  • Krissu

At least Ellen is getting some unlike One Million Moms.

  • Chris R

Even though I personally have no problem with GLBT persons., they have the absolute right not to want her as a spokesperson if it differs from their moral views. I know for a fact that sexuality is a huge sprectrum and whether it’s part of your genetic background or a choice, I don’t think it’s an issue I would find important one way or another.

  • Dr Snake

I want a head count! I want to know if there are really a million mothers against Ellen. Then I plan to laugh anyway. A million or 4, it doesn’t matter to Penney’s as long as Ellen brings some full wallets into the store. Personally I was more offended by those awful screaming commercials JP ran in January. Weren’t those the worst freakin’ ads ever made?

  • Dr Snake

Make up your mind, Chris. Is it or is it not an issue?

  • Ham213

You’re right. They absolutely have the right to not want her as a spokesperson. However, they do NOT have the right to demand she be fired. I would suggest they “not want her” quietly and simply not shop at JCPenney anymore. I have a feeling JCPenney will not need their patronage since their choice will create an increase of shoppers who appreciate their good taste in a spokesperson who’s funny, sincere, and kind.

  • laura

As someone who is a born again Christian I’m getting really tired of Christians judging people who are gay or lesbian. God will do that. They never seem to have much of a problem with adulterers and that’s breaking one of our Lords ten commandments. Ellen DeGeneres seems like a wonderful kind generous woman. If whom she is sleeping with isn’t right with the Lord he will let her know when she stands in judgement. It hasn’t stopped me from enjoying her show and it won’t stop me from shopping at JC Penny’s.

  • Guest

Isn’t Ellen the spokesperson for some cosmetics company already? Why no complaints from the folks about that? What is so special about JC Penney’s anyway, their merchandise is not so great, so I won’t miss not shopping there.

  • Guest

French Flies I agree with you about the churches.

  • French Flies

There is no Biblical example of Jesus Christ behaving like these knee jerk do gooders. This is NOT an issue of religion, but of moral superiority which can be found in any paradigm.

  • Anonymous

Shocked that this would happen. I see Ellen for what she is -Kind and good person. Who she chooses to love is none of my business.

  • http://www.facebook.com/laquitathodge Laquita T. Hodge

I agree. I’m a Christian as well & I’m getting tired of people who claim to be followers of Christ being judgmental and making mountains out of molehills. Her being their spokesperson won’t stop me from shopping there at all, I like their clothes. It’s not like they’re going to have a huge cutout of her in all of their stores & some won’t even see the commercials.
You’re right, everyone will have to face the Lord & He’ll let her know where she stands. It’s not our job to judge others, just spread His word.

  • Chris R

On the scale of things it’s not much of an issue when you consider all the other problems in the world that could be focused on.

  • Ben

I’m not really a religious person, but I know the Bible kinda pretty well, and I gotta say it’s nice to see someone who seems to know the true meaning of Christianity.
Especially on the internet, which has become the playground for all the batshit crazy haters,as we all know..
So,props to you Laura, for understanding that Jesus was clearly not a judgmental douchebag,he was the perfect opposite of that.
I wish more Christians were like you, maybe I wouldn’t judge them so harshly for their blind faith if they really, truly lived by it.

  • Get Over It!

You are absolutely right. When the adultress was about to be stoned to death, Jesus didn’t stand by and say “Oh well! You had it coming sinner!” No! He stood between her and the crowd, and stated “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” I think all these “Christians” need to go back to the Holy Book, and actually READ it in it’s entirety – not just the passages in Leviticus that fit their agenda! There is a reason for the The New Testament – a renewed relationship between man & God. If what they are doin is really a sin, then Jesus has already paid for them. When He died on the cross, He died for ALL sins, not just some. These purported Christians are nothing more than a bunch of Judas’….and we all know what happened to him…Just live & let live.

“Judge not lest ye be judged.” “Vengeance is mine, so sayeth the Lord!”

  • Janet

Ellen has done so much for so many people. I support Ellen 100% and the hell with those 1 million so called moms.

  • justsaying

Ham213 – it wouldn’t surprise me if these ‘one million moms” wouldn’t shop at Penney’s anyway. They most likely get their clothing at thrift shops and clothing exchanges.

  • Phweston0269

I ran for the mute button everytime those Scream commercials came on! But I wont stop shopping there to further another Right Wing Fundamentalist agenda.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Brenda-Mills/100000377591626 Brenda Mills

Perhaps these avengers for a more moral majority should try to ensure that ‘family values’ are intact in their homes with Living by example. Children learn from what goes on in their home.Looks to me like these women are teaching them to hate anyone that doesn’t agree with their ideas of what is right. I am a 65 yr.young mother of 2 grown children, I have shopped at Pennys for 50 yrs. and this band of witch hunters won’t change that. Now if I hear that Pennys cave on this, I’ll stop. I do totally agree with Dr. Snake, those screaming commercials were the most awful form of advertising I have ever seen. I almost wore out the mute button. If anything was going to drive me off, that would have done it.

  • Lisa E.

I AGREE!! Hated those screaming commercials! AND support JCPenney and Ellen!

just saying the commentators here who commented how much they disliked million mom’s boycot of Ellen Degeneres JC Penny spokesperson is very heartening to me. It shows, at least from those who made comments here that there are those who are anti homophobia and for tolerance.

  • JAO7654

I donot believe a million women ever put this into motion. This is what is known as a Marketing Strategy Game to ruffle the public into still noticing that there is still a JCPenney at all.
Company is in trouble. Last ditch effort to be talked about and a lame one at that.
Ellen most probably didnot even know company was going to use her for this.
    Just an Opinion.

  • LoveThemAsIHave

I gave your post a LIKE…WE as true Christian’s are called to be the hands and feet of Christ himself. He himself said “I Didnot come to world to condemn it but to save it”. So in like manner we should extend our hands the same way he would have “WITH LOVE AND GREAT COMPASSION” for a very confused world.
That mean’s to all whether it be to the million mother’s or to the gay community…We must love both.
And leave the judgement up to God himself.
    That day will come.

  • Danny

LOL maybe I’m the only one that’s in love with those commercials…

  • Anonymous

Maybe if Ellen were fat, uneducated, unhappy and wore a fanny pack, they’d relate to her more. I can’t stand when conserves play the family values card. I think Ellen would had made a much better mom than the ‘straight’ Casey Anthony, no? Silly primal folk, stuck in the dark ages.

  • Val5

the stupidity of some people is astounding! we are in 2012 and a group of frustrated fools thinks still have the right to dictate the conduct or sexual orientation of others …. pathetic.

  • Anonymous

Time to go buy something at Penney’s. Good thing Ellen doesn’t determine who gets what based on their sexuality when she hands out gifts.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Q76T64OPK4CRJ3DAAPZVJMX4VU Tirzah

There is so much more to a person than who they choose to love or express their love to. To define a human being from one aspect of the million different parts of a soul of a human being is so narrow-minded. Ellen is an extremely talented and loving human being who has injected love, joy, laughter and fun into the lives of millions of people. That is just tipping the iceberg as she has helped hundreds of thousands of children and donated hundreds of thousands of her own money to children in need. I would love to see one of the mother’s who are against her to give one instance of the enormous generosity and self sacrifice Ellen has given in her life. I am am a heterosexual married mother, and I am so proud of the human being Ellen sets an example that we should strive to be. She is loving, and self-sacrificing and that is what we should all be to each other-no matter the gender of who we feel the most at peace hugging when we fall asleep. Every human being has feminine and male qualities to their soul-the way our physical body manifests is such a small part of who we are. I will continue to buy my son’s clothes at JC Penny!:) I am thrilled that he will see the shining and joyful beautiful face of a woman who has given so much to children, smiling at him from the ads as we shop. ~Tirzah

I’m an “evangelical” Christian, as the term was before it got politicized, and I am a big shopper at JCPenney and will continue to be, maybe more. God save us from this crazy nonsense.

  • Ellen

I would hate to see what would happen if any of the children who belong to the 1M mothers came out as gay. Hell would freeze over.

  • jae

I love Ellen Degeneres. I think that she has more heart and soul and goodness in her heart than any one of those One Million Mom witches could ever hope to have. They just gave me ONE MILLION MORE REASONS TO SHOP AT JC PENNEYS.

  • Brandi

    Read the Bible.

  • Dpack0211

Ellen is by far the most kind, sincere, a woman of true equality, a woman who supports those in need including animals, she is able to make the world laugh every single day which is the best cure for all! Clearly the one million moms are uneducated and 100% hold ill will towards every other equality issue out there. I’m positive it’s not just the gays which they are against, disgusting. And I guarantee these woman have not touched a single soul with hope, wealth and prosperity the way Ellen has. The rest of us need to stand against these ignorant individuals and hope they’re children are far smarter than who is raising them. Ellen you are the best!

As a evangelical christian, I’m feed up with one million mom protesting ever single business over something that they disagree with. JC Penny picked Ellen to be their spokesperson to try increase market segmentation. I’m a marketing major and I know that JC Penny is try to increase this. I doesn’t meant that JC Penny is automatically going to jump into the whole debate about gay marriage. They may stay neutral on the whole issue because they are trying to increase business across a diverse range of people. I think Ellen is a very funny and caring person. She is even respectful to these that disagree with her. I like her a lot better than Rosie. I have watched her show a few times.

One million moms should realize that JC Penny hired Ellen is a spokesperson for business reasons. It does not mean they are automatically going to take a position on the Gay marriage debate or any other related position. They may stay neutral and take no sides. I’m sure they did a good amount of research out of different possible people to be their spokesperson. Ellen is respectful to everyone and she not controversial like Rosie O Donnell. Would One Million Mom rather have Ellen or Rosie has JC Penny’s spokesperson.

Does One Million Moms realize that these companies provide jobs to people and if their sales drop dramatically because of a boycott, then they will lay off their employees. Last time I checked we are in a recession. It is hard to find a job right now.

one million moms should focus more on parenting their own children rather than coming up with all this garbage!

one million moms has under 50,000 followers. it’s really just a few at the top who formed the group that s saying all of this.
    I love Ellen.. I think she’s hilarious!
