One Direction: The TV Special Announced As Part Of “NBC Universal Takeover”
One Direction is taking over NBC Universal! On Wednesday, an “unprecedented” and “groundbreaking” partnership was announced between the boy band and the entertainment company.
The deal includes a series of events leading up to “One Direction: The TV Special,” a broadcast to air on NBC primetime in December. It all kicks off with a live “Today Show” performance from Universal Orlando Resort’s CityWalk in Florida on Monday, November 17, the same day the group’s highly-anticipated album, Four, is released. One Direction is holding worldwide contests in which fans can win VIP tickets to the performance, and to a private concert at the Universal Studios Florida Music Plaza stage the next day, Tuesday, November 18.
Furthermore, fans who attend Universal Orlando Resort over those two days can ride “a specially-themed ‘Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit’ roller coaster featuring music from 1D,” and see “a special 1D version of the ‘Universal Cinematic Spectacular’ nighttime show.” There will also be One Direction social media activities at the park’s Fan Zone. And, those who stay at Universal Orlando’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort can attend an “exclusive album listening pool party” on November 16, before the album is even released. If that’s not all, attendees will also have the “unique opportunity to sign up for specially recorded wake-up calls from the members of One Direction.”
What about those who can’t make it to Universal Studios? That’s where One Direction’s first-ever U.S. network TV special comes in. The one-hour program will air on December 23 at 8 p.m. Eastern, as an early holiday present for Directioners. ARE YOU EXCITED?!
