One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” Breaks Spotify Record For Most-Streamed Song
One Direction’s new single “Drag Me Down” broke a Spotify record, becoming the most-streamed song in one day. According to the music site, the new song was played 4.75 million times globally on Friday when it was released, beating Wiz Khalifa’s song “See You Again,” which previously held the record when it was streamed 4.26 million times on April 17.
“Drag Me Down” also became the first song to reach the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s Global Chart on the first day of its release. That record was previously held by Calvin Harris for “Blame.” The boy band’s record-breaking streak doesn’t end there either. Spotify also revealed “Drag Me Down” topped the charts in 15 countries, including United States, Italy, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Canada.
As Gossip Cop reported, One Direction released “Drag Me,” its first single without Zayn Malik, on Friday with no prior warning. They then performed the song for the first time live Friday evening during a concert in Indianapolis. The song is also the first single off One Direction’s upcoming fifth album.
One day after the song dropped, Malik tweeted that he was a fan of “Drag Me Down,” writing, “Proud of my boys the new single is sick. Big love.” What do you think about One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” breaking a Spotify record?
