One Direction Fans’ Twitter Accounts Reportedly Suspended As Spam

One Direction fans are not thrilled with Twitter right now.

On Thursday, the social media platform reportedly suspended tens of thousands of accounts belonging to the boy band’s ardent supporters, apparently in response to a flood of tweets using hashtags that pertained to a One Direction DVD “watch party.”

The messages were reportedly considered “spam” violations.

It’s not been established how many accounts were actually taken down.

Directioners, as they’re known, began a “Twitter Unsuspend Directioners” trending topic in response.

Gossip Cop reached out to Twitter for an official explanation of whatever actions were (or were not) taken, but has yet to hear back.

Twitter infamously banned “Justin Bieber” as a trending topic amid the singer’s meteoric rise to superstardom.

    this woman is unnecessary ^ get a life.
    i will probably never understand why other parties interfere with fandoms like that of one direction. if you don’t like them or their fans, then stay out of it ! i can’t help but sense jealousy here. fans are upset at the suspension of their twitter accounts and they are not to blame, so leave them alone.

    My account got suspended, so I tweeted from a different account. I tweeted a LOT more from that one, but only the first got suspended? It was like 3 days old :S

    Before you’re going to be sassy and rude unnecessarily, use the right word… the word is “they’re” as in they are, NOT “there” as in location.

    I agree. I’m not a big fan of One Direction…their songs are okay, but not to my taste…but I don’t see why people like to bash fans of other fandoms. If you don’t like them and all you want to do is bash them or their fans, don’t bother commenting.

    Huh? How many times do you need to tweet something to get your account suspended? Every five minutes? Wow. They really should give or state a good reason to this. But it is Twitter we talking about.

    Fake email? You really should be careful with such things. Did they ask you to write down your password or any personal stuffs to get your accounts back online? If they did. Don’t do it. Criminals are doing this kind of things all the time. Trying to get your passwords or other who are personal.

    If you have a business don’t rely on Twitter. Look what happened to Myspace. Now Justin Timberlake has poured millions into a total rebuild of Myspace to make it much much better.

    I was suckered in by a pack of Trolls into responding and in my defense Twitter banned me. I was even defending attacks on media presenters.

    I was prior generating genuine content that people found interesting (no it wasn’t porn etc)

    Because my interest was primarily politics I did follow hashtag streams for obvious reasons. I wasn’t a business and always had pure intent.

    If you are running a business set up a few accounts, one for followers.

    One for promotional info but don’t send out a gazillion tweets as people wont read it.

    One disposable account for abusing trolls attacking you.

    Always lead any potential customer away from Twitter over to your website and other media because Twitter don’t respect any contribution you may make.

    When the trolls come switch to another account and let them have it as Twitter just delete their own content drivers

    Twitter are listening to trolls Twitter self reporting algorithm because they are too dumb to work out they are cannibalizing their best & brightest contributors.

    Have an exit strategy
