One Direction performed “Drag Me Down” live for the first time on Friday, just hours after the surprise release of the new single. Watch below!

As Gossip Cop reported, “Drag Me Down” premiered late Thursday/early Friday morning without any prior warning. Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Harry Styles all announced on Twitter that the track, which will be featured on their upcoming fifth album, was available for purchase on iTunes. And purchase Directioners did.

The track went to number one on iTunes in just minutes, as Gossip Cop noted, becoming the fastest-selling song ever. And it conquered the top spot in not just a couple of countries, but a whopping 80. The success was a huge victory for the band, in part because it was the first new music since Zayn Malik’s departure earlier this year.

But while the song was a gift for fans worldwide, the luckiest ones were in Indianapolis. Those at Friday’s “On The Road Again” concert had the privilege of being the first fans to see One Direction perform “Drag Me Down” live. Clips immediately flooded the Internet afterward, with much social media talk centering on Styles’ high note at the end.

Payne announced at the show that they had just finished their highly-anticipated fifth record the night before. And, due to unexpected early releases of their past four albums, he begged fans not to leak this one. Still feeling excitement after the concert, Horan tweeted, “well if that wasn’t the coolest day ever then I don’t know what was, drag me down is out, we performed it in Indy! sick day.”

Tomlinson wrote, “Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick show tonight! Hope you liked drag me down!!!” And Styles posted, “Indianapolis you were lovely tonight. Glad we got to perform Drag Me Down for you. Thanks for having us. Hope you had a good time. H.” Check out the video below, and tell us what you think! Note: Video no longer available.
