One Direction’s new single “Drag Me Down” reached the No. 1 spot on iTunes shortly after its Friday morning release, setting a new record. The song has become the fastest-selling single ever, and is currently No. 1 in 80 countries.

As Gossip Cop reported, the band dropped the song without any prior warning early Friday morning. In a video message to fans, Liam Payne said, “Hi guys our new single ‘Drag Me Down’ is out now we hope you like it. It’s the first song from the new album that we’ve been working very, very hard on.” He added, “We can’t wait for you to hear it. See you soon, lots of love.”

As Payne stated in his message, “Drag Me Down” is the first single from the foursome’s upcoming fifth album, due out in November. It’s also the first song the band has released without Zayn Malik, who quit in March to launch a solo career.

As Gossip Cop noted earlier this week, Malik announced on Wednesday that he had singed a deal with RCA Records saying he was ready to make “real music.” Malik has not commented on One Direction releasing it new single “Drag Me Down.”
