U.S. Men’s Basketball Team Wins Gold After Tight Olympics Final Against Spain
12:41 pm, August 12th, 2012
The U.S. men’s basketball team won the Olympic gold medal with a 107-100 victory over Spain on Sunday.
Kevin Durant led the Americans with 30 points, as LeBron James (19) and Kobe Bryant (17) helped to put away the Spanish squad for the second straight Olympics finals.
Despite an NBA superstar-stocked roster, the U.S. team led by just one point after three quarters, but managed to fend off Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers teammate Pau Gasol and his countrymen in the final minutes.
Earlier, Russia defeated Argentina to win the bronze medal.
On Saturday, the U.S. women’s team defeated France to capture their own fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
