The pageant began with whittling down the 51 contestants to the top 15 women. The 15 women who moved on to the swimsuit competition were Miss Texas, Miss Maryland, Miss Arizona, Miss Michigan, Miss Virginia, Miss Rhode Island, Miss Kentucky, Miss Hawaii, Miss New York, Miss Illinois, Miss Nevada, Miss Oklahoma, Miss Delaware, and Miss Louisiana.
Next, there was the swimsuit competition. After that, the remaining contestants were down to 10. Those who made the cut were Miss Nevada, Miss Hawaii, Miss Rhode Island, Miss Maryland, Miss Alabama, Miss Louisiana, Miss Michigan, Miss Oklahoma, Miss Delaware, and Miss Texas.
But it wasn’t the end of the road for one of the women. In a new twist, America was allowed to vote and save one of the eliminated women. And the woman who got a second chance was Miss Kentucky.
After the evening gown competition, Miss Kentucky was eliminated again, and the top 5 women, who advanced to the interview part were Miss Oklahoma, Miss Texas, Miss Rhode Island, Miss Maryland, Miss Nevada. But after questions about political correctness and race relations, respectively, for Miss Rhode Island and Miss Nevada, the two women didn’t help themselves, flubbing their answers. All the women were then asked how they thought should be on the new $10 bill. Answers ranged from Rosa Parks to vagueness to Oprah.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, the beauty pageant was plagued by controversy after pageant owner Donald Trump said, when announcing his presidential candidacy in June, that many Mexican immigrants were “rapists” and “criminals,” who only brought problems to the U.S. Trump’s comments led to NBC announcing it would not be airing the Miss USA pageant. Additionally, the pageant’s original hosts, judges, and performers dropped out and needed to be replaced at the last minute.
