Obama Wipes Away Tears in Emotional Speech on Newtown School Shooting (VIDEO)

VIDEO

(YouTube)

An emotional President Obama addressed the nation on Friday afternoon after a devastating elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut left more than 20 people — mostly young kids — dead.

VIDEO BELOW

At one point wiping away tears, Obama said, “I know there’s not a parent in America who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief that I do. The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years old.”

Pausing to compose himself, he continued, “They had their entire lives ahead of them. Birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own.”

“As a country, we have been through this too many times,” said the President, later adding, “These neighborhoods are our neighbors, and these children are our children. And we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this.”

Very sad day indeed…. But taking away firearms is not the answer!

  • MissZee

you take away firearms, you could very well be looking at the next US Civil War..the people of the South love having their guns…majority of them don’t use them to kill people for fun…they use guns for protection…the problem he has to face is how can people keep their guns but keep them out of the hands of unstable individuals?..there ARE solutions. but we just do not know WHEN the solution will come or if it will ever come…guns don’t kill people. people kill people…take away guns, you’ll have knife fights…take away knives, they’ll use bats..everything can be used a weapon to cause harm…going to take away everyday things we use? pens? pencils? scissors? cars?..

I’m crying right now, what an awful crime has been committed taking the innocent away from us. My thoughts go out to the families this is just awful

  • orlando

Why is this happening in the Unites States? you call yourself a developed country. This is a big lie. If you are so developed, so tell me why you have these incredible crimes. I think you are a third world country.

  • orlando

United States wastes a lot of dollars in arms. Why don´t you use these money to produce cures against cancer or AIDS?. for this reason you have these kind of situations.

  • orlando

Mister OBAMA, YOU DON´T CARE ABOUT ARM CONTROL.

  • orlando

I think there must be a strict arm control. fire arms must be just in police hands not in everybody hands

  • ‘Tis Moi

I am so thankful to have moved to Australia. While there are the occasional illegal gun acts (very occasional), having guns removed from the general population here means I don’t have to read about stuff like this every frigging day as I did in the US!

To those of you who are still fighting to have guns- because you need to “defend yourself”, I submit that this defence is ridiculous & the number of people who actually ever use a gun in self-defence vs. guns that are out there is microscopic. It is also disgusting that this is even voiced in the face of this tragedy- it shows a callousness & lack of true empathy on the part of those insisting that guns are necessary in the general population.

I’m sorry- it’s time to do in the US what has been successfully done in AU- guns come off the street- NOW. Legitimate gun usage (target practice, farm/property owners for nuisance animals, etc…) is allowed. The rest- well, any gun other than this is illegal & the person with it is prosecuted.

The president & the gov’t needs to stop this insanity & stop caving into the caveman mentality of needing a gun. It’s sick.

  • Wakeup

Actually people with guns kill people, take away the gun and lets see how easy it is for one person to walk into a school and leave killing 20 or so people. Wake up!..What is it going to take. If it was one of your children would you still be spewing your gun love argument. Of course gun control is not going to fix every violent act that could happen. But imposing stricter laws on how you can gain access to them will make it a little harder for Joe blow to walk into a Gun shop and and pick up whatever weapons he wants to commit mass murder with. For a smart country you sure seem to take a long time to learn from your mistakes, how many mass murders will it take for you to put down your guns and realize something needs to change. I’m thankful that Australia made the change after the Port Arthur massacre, we haven’t had one since and that was 16 years ago. Yes people should have the right to defend themselves but innocent children should have the right to go to school and not have to worry about a man with a gun. 20 Dead children, 7 dead adults and even more little girls and boys who probably can’t close their eyes without seeing and hearing gun fire. It’s a tragedy that could of been prevented.

  • MissZee

    1. CT has strict laws…the shooter stole the guns from his mother (who had a legal permit, and who he killed). 2. this should also be about the mental state of individuals trying to purchase a gun..3) owning a gun is different in each state but fine…lets take away guns, maybe nothing will happen. but then again, something could…person could have explosive on them or around the school. or say if you are walking down the street and you have no gun on you to defend yourself, just going to allow the person to hurt you in anyway? i doubt you would…i know i would. and the thing is, i’m not a fan of guns. but i am strongly against those who want to take away the rights to bare arms. the ONLY reason why people are wanting change all of a sudden is because the victims were children…also, I live in NYC…when i was in high school, we had metal detectors. i was safe…only thing that happened in my high school when i attended was fights…by using objects inside classrooms, not their fists…everything we use is a weapon…so lets go crazy and ban everything

  • docmusic

Merry Christmas …..Now that Obama has cried in front of
everybody he just might show what a tough guy he is by doing what is actually
expected of him as the Commander-in-chief of the world’s most powerful machine
to set the planet straight and fix islam once and for all. Obama has everything to can islam. He’s even black. Islam will not survive to rue the day moremad messed with the blacks. The brothas are smarter and stronger than islam.
Black Obama is on the threshold of white greatness if he uses television . There
are lots of us that do not want to leave the legacy of dirty islam for our
children. Is Obama with us or not? This is becoming too much…..WE have to
somehow make them see the light. A few juicy light-ups. …any light out is a
gift . Crocodile tears are the only way to deal with islam.

The islam carbon footprint is tooo big to be ignored by anyone
today day in day out. All this strife in the middle east in islam is Mother
Nature’s way of dealing with the cancer that is islam that has latched on to
her body. Mother Nature has even shown us how to remove it with the gift of the
atom but we are not ready to help Mother Nature.

If we don’t help Mother Nature get rid of this cancer Mother
Nature in disgust and pain will turn the tables on us. I have a feeling this is
slowly happening. The more we twiddle our thumbs the faster islam
advances. Whoever wrote all this dystopia years ago could see damn
far…..The great Ramayana and the Bible. The Ramayana shows what the Bible
doesn’t describe. Science fiction of yore is actually coming together if you
    have a vivid imagination.
islam is a case study of madness.
islam is wasting our money. The problem is islam mimics
    good for evil.
The problem with islam is that the more the stupid the better the muslim .
Our fundamental flaw is that we see muslims as people and islam as some kind of
religion. We have to start seeing ourselves thru their murdering eyes. That
image of us is with them all the time. All the time. In the end islam will
actually achive nothing nothing nothing. Islam is useless !!

CNN the official government news station made a huge deal about obama’s tears. So what can or will obama do about gun violence now.

  • bren

I thought adam lanza was the only perpetrator.

When president Kennedy was shot, something might have been done about guns and the ease with which they could be purchased. That time is long gone.

  • bren

yeah yeah but what is he going to do about it.

  • berkeley-hume

He is a very disciplined cryer. Tears were wiped away at exactly 1:00 minute, exactly 2:00 minutes, and exactly 3:00 minutes. And there were no actual tears or tearing around the eyes.

  • Maat

Residents of the United States own about 42 percent of all the world’s civilian-owned firearms. The homicide rate by firearm is 200 to 800 percent higher in the US than in other advanced countries such as England, France, Australia, and Japan where firearms are more tightly controlled by law. It’s time to do in the US what has been successfully done in other parts of the world.

  • outraged

There were no fatalities in the China slash attack. It’s your argument that is nonsense. Guns are vastly more efficient killing machines than knives or anything else easily carried around by lunatics. Lose the guns and everybody’s safer.

  • shay

yea because criminals and psychos obey the laws right?

  • jackalexandria

Other countries have tighter laws with regards to fire arms, and other countries have fewer mass murders of innocent children, which would you prefer? Or do you think the murder of 20 innocent lives is normal?

  • jackalexandria

let me put it this way, the rest of the world is appalled every time we pick up a paper and read about yet another mass murder of innocent young lives in America. Which would you prefer, freedom to carry a gun? or a safer environment for your children?

  • MissZee

Both. I want the right to protect myself against foreign and domestic individuals who i feel are threat to me and my family. also, if guns weren’t the on the table as choice of weapon, knives could be, bombs, cars, etc…everything we use in life is considered a weapon…hell, you can even stab someone with a PENCIL…going to take pencils away too? the problem isn’t guns or weapons…the problem is people and their mental state. want to eradicate the the problem…it starts at home…values and morals do not exist anymore.

  • jackalexandria

foreign and domestic individuals. Wow. Please tell me how many children were massacred by pencils in 2012?

  • MissZee

you don’t seem to get what i am saying…anything can be used by a weapon. i’m giving you an example of what someone could use if they wanted to stab someone.

  • jackalexandria

I do get what your saying, but I disagree. If you take away the major contributor to the massacre “firearms” ie: Virginia tech and columbine then the opportunity to walk into room and wipe out groups of people is lowered. I understand there are some people in the community who warrant having a gun like the police or hunters, but for every family to posses one is dangerous and I disagree. If you want to find out more information about how successful strict gun laws can be, then just check out Australia.

  • MissZee

by taking away firearms in this country, you will be looking at possibly a Civil War…states WILL secede, particularly the South…if you do not think it’s possible that it will happen, then you are denial…it is very hard to change the Bill of Rights…just because it works in Australia does not mean it will work in the US…every country is different. and no one seems to get that. what works for one country, will not work for another country. also, if the shooters in Columbine or or Virginia Tech didn’t have guns…they could of have used bombs.

  • jackalexandria

I appreciate what your saying but at the end of day I’m glad I don’t live in the US. Civil war? really? Wow.

  • MissZee

yes. really. if you do not think it is possible, than you do not know this country very well. when word got out that Obama won the election again, states already started writing petitions to secede. ALL of them…this is just adding fuel to the fire

  • Citizenright

“Successfully done in other parts of the world”? Crime went through the roof in England and Australia when they confiscated the guns, dumbfk.

Mexico has had 60,000 murders in 6 six years with gun laws as restrictive as Nazi Germany.

    Pullyerheadouttayerass.

  • Citizenright

    OK, let’s not overdo it.

  • Citizenright

Crime is up in Australia after the gun confiscation. Don’t lie shtbag.

  • Citizenright

Uh, because the guy was, you know, crazy. Orlando, you are too stupid to even touch a gun. Stay unarmed, dufus.

  • Citizenright

Tell us, dumbfk, just how you would use the law to prevent this from happening again? Huh? He was crazy. Crazy people and criminals don’t care about the law, shitforbrains.

  • Citizenright

Uh, Bren, something was done. You cannot acquire a firearm with the ease that Oswald did. Do a little research so you don’t soundsofking stupid next time, ok?

  • Citizenright

Wakeup, tell oh wise one, just how it could have been prevented. Be specific, and leave the sanctimony out/

  • Citizenright

Another idiot heard from. “Lose the guns”? Just how do we do that, dumbass?

  • Citizenright

I don’t giveafk what the rest of the world thinks.

Mexico has had 60,000 murders in 6 years with gun laws stricter than Nazi Germany.

But, don’t you ever touch a gun. You are not smart enough, or reliable enough to use one.

  • Citizenright

Obama’s wiping (didn’t see any tears) his eye made you cry? That did it, eh? Not the news earlier about all the murdered children? Obama’s tear made you cry?

    Go back to sleep, numbskull.

  • Citizenright

The killings didn’t but Obama’s did, huh? Are you on medication?

  • ‘Tis Moi

Actually, only those who wish to ignore the complexities of statistics & context would believe such a thing.

The average Australian didn’t own a gun even prior to the buy-back- it was never a constitutional right in the first place. After the buy-back (which was for weapons like AK47, etc) gun ownership is still allowed here.

“Don’t lie shtbag”- shows exactly the type of mentality I fear would buy & own (& misuse) a gun.

Thanks for saving me making that point.

  • jackalexandria

and you sure sound like one of them. thats a worry

  • jackalexandria

crime in Australia did not increase, and there has never been another mass murder. It worked.

  • Pji

Oh boy. At A time when this country grieves, you speak of Islam. Speak of the parents who woke up this morning to empty bedrooms where their children once slept in Newton Conn. Think about the teachers who placed themselves between this evil man and little children. Perhaps you can keep your comments more directed to the pain and suffering these families are going through. Here’s one for you. May God bless the children and teachers who started Friday December 14th as a regular day in Kindergarten. May God bless the Parents who lost all the dreams they had for their children. And may God bless this Great Country.

  • MissZee

i honestly do not know what he’s going to do about it. he could do nothing. surprisingly, i haven’t read or heard about gun activists groups speak about this…although, a politician from Texas did say somewhere along the lines that if the principal had a gun, this wouldn’t of happened…but that is a Texan, who the people in the state of Texas love the 2nd Amendment

yea but you cant change the bill of rights. we have the right to bear arms and it cant be taken away from us, and rip all the lives that were lost
