WATCH: SNL Mocks Obama’s 60 Minutes Interview About ISIS in Cold Open
Steve Kroft’s “60 Minutes” interview with President Obama (Jay Pharoah) about ISIS was spoofed in the “SNL” cold open.
After exchanging pleasantries, Kroft asked Obama whether he thinks he underestimated the threat of ISIS. “Yes, and obviously my entire administration shares the blame for that,” he responded, “but first could I throw one particular person under the bus? James Clapper.”
“Got it,” Kroft said,” Now what in particular surprised you about ISIS?” Obama noted that we underestimated their military as well as how effective ISIS would be at social media. “These terrorists have nothing to do,” he explained. “They could be tweeting all day. I am talking peak hours between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and they can maximize favs as well as RT’s, those are retweets.” Obama said ISIS often uses hashtags and trending topics like #TheVoiceIsBack” and #ThankYouJeter” while trying to “destroy the infidels.” He also said that all the money people thought they were giving to Zach Braff on Kickstarter is “really going to terrorists.” Obama further noted that ISIS was effectively using LinkedIn and even Tinder.
