Nyle DiMarco National Anthem Video: Deaf Star Signs “Star-Spangled Banner” At NBA Finals – WATCH!
Nyle DiMarco performed the National Anthem at the NBA Finals on Friday by signing the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Watch below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, DiMarco was born deaf. He does not use hearing aids and relies on American Sign Language to communicate. Despite his inability to hear, he won “America’s Next Top Model” last year and, more incredibly, “Dancing with the Stars” last month.
He was invited to lead the National Anthem for game four of the 2016 NBA championship at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland before the Cavaliers take on the Golden State Warriors. The huge honor had all eyes on DiMarco as he stood on the court and performed the “Star-Spangled Banner” entirely through sign language as the crowd sang along. He follows in the footsteps of Marlee Matlin, who has performed the National Anthem in ASL at three Super Bowls, including this past February.
DiMarco’s appearance came one night after attending a star-studded charity in New York, and he noted on Twitter, “Last night, met the Wades @amfAR gala!! AND now tonight I’m signing the national anthem at #NBAFinals.” Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, of course, is not competing in the NBA finals this year, but it was a nice coincidence.
More amazing, though, is that this opportunity helps DiMarco fulfill his goal of introducing sign language to the masses and raising awareness about the deaf community. Check out the full video below!
