LIVE STREAM: Nik Wallenda Chicago Skyscraper Walk — Watch Online Here!
Nik Wallenda will attempt to tightrope walk between two Chicago skyscrapers on Sunday… while blindfolded. Gossip Cop will have a live stream.
The daredevil has previously pulled off such death-defying stunts such as walking a highwire across the Grand Canyon last year, and another above Niagara Falls in 2012. Both events were broadcast on television. This is the first time, however, Wallenda will be wearing a blindfold. He’ll also be making the walk without a harness, or a net below him. And if those factors weren’t enough, part of the trip is on an incline reportedly equivalent to going up eight stories. Not surprisingly, Discovery is airing the stunt on a 10-second delay in case of any mishap.
The 35-year-old Wallenda will first walk from the Marina City West Tower uphill at a 15-degree angle across the Chicago River to the Leo Burnett building. He will then return to the ground, and go back up to the Marina City tower to walk between its East and West buildings while blindfolded. The forecast currently calls for 10-15 mph winds with temperatures in the 30s. This will be the first time he participates in two walks back-to-back.
Wallenda comes from a family of highwire artists. He is a member of The Flying Wallendas, a family circus group of aerial performers. Wallenda’s great-grandfather Karl Wallenda founded the group in 1922. He fell to his death doing a walk in Puerto Rico in 1978 at age 73.
At a press conference on Friday, Wallenda said, “Yes, we’ve lost family members in the past. We’ve also learned from those accidents. How they lost their life, why they lost their life.” He further said, “People think there’s something mystical or magical behind what I do. I’ve done it my whole life… This is just what I do.”
The livestream will begin at 7 p.m. Eastern. Watch below. Note: Video no longer available.
