Nightcrawler And Ouija Creep To Top Of Box Office On Halloween Weekend
Nightcrawler and Ouija both crept to the top of the box office on a spookily slow Halloween weekend.
Nightcrawler, the Jake Gyllenhaal-starring crime thriller, debuted with $10. 9 million. It was tied by last week’s chart-topper, the horror flick Ouija, which brings the classic game to the big screen.
Nightcrawler stars Gyllenhaal as an ambitious and morally dubious man who takes video of horrific crime scenes in Los Angeles and then sells the footage to a news station. Bill Paxton and Rene Russo are also featured. It was initially predicted to top Ouija, and still may when it comes down to dollars and cents.
World War II tank drama Fury fell to number three, after coming in first after its opening weekend two weeks ago and then second last week. It now took in $9.1 million in its third week. The hit book adaptation Gone Girl, now down to fourth place, was still able to rack up $8.8 in earnings. That was enough to beat the animated kids’ flick, The Book of Life, which came in fifth with $8.3 million.
The Keanu Reeves action extravaganza John Wick finished in sixth ($8.1 million), followed by St. Vincent ($7.8 million). Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day landed eighth ($6.5 million). Rounding out the Top 10 were the Robert Downey, Jr. courtroom drama ($3.4 million) and the vampire epic Dracula Untold ($2.9 million).
