Nicole Richie Joins The New Normal

Nicole Richie is expanding her television career with a role on “The New Normal.”

The designer and reality star, who has previously appeared on scripted shows like “Chuck” and “American Dreams,” has been cast on the new NBC sitcom, it was announced on Friday.

A rep for the show tells Gossip Cop that Richie will be playing herself.

“The New Normal,” which premiered earlier this month and comes from “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy, focuses on a gay couple, their surrogate, and her close-minded grandmother.

Richie’s casting was announced by Murphy on Twitter, where he also revealed that former “Star Trek” star George Takei has joined the series as well.

Richie seems quite excited by the developments, retweeting Murphy’s message, and adding, “Wooohoooo!!”

    I watched the show the other night and was blown away at how funny & sardonic it is. Nicole has that snarky comedic wit the show is already rife with. (Elle Barkin OWNS that show. I’d love to see her go head to head with Nicole in an episode)!!

    I am really excited to see Nicole Richie on The New Normal next week! I’m
    sure that Richie and George Takei will do great on the show. One of my DISH
    coworkers and I were talking about some of our favorite shows, and she
    mentioned the pilot and how much she liked it. After watching it on my Hopper using the
    PrimeTime Anytime feature, which records all four major networks during prime
    time, I warmed up to The New Normal in no time. I have not missed a single
    episode because of the feature either! This show has witty comedy as well as
    loveable and warm characters.
