Nicki Minaj Producing And Co-Starring On ABC Family TV Show Based On Her Life
Nicki Minaj is set to produce and co-star in an ABC Family TV series that will be based on the rapper’s early life growing up in Queens, New York. Prior to the big announcement, Minaj tweeted, “My surprise is on its way. Who’s up? #NickiSurprise less than an hour.”
The currently untitled series will be set in the 90’s and revolve around Minaj growing up in Queens with her immigrant family, who moved to the U.S. from Trinidad when Minaj was a child. The show is said to be comedic in tone, and will also focus on the singer’s early forays into music that would eventually lead to her becoming a superstar. Although Minaj isn’t expected to star on the show as a regular cast member, she will appear onscreen in some capacity.
The singer has prior acting experience, having appeared in the Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman, and also providing a voice role for the animated film Ice Age: Continental Drift. Minaj most recently finished filming a supporting part for the upcoming Barbershop 3. It has not been revealed who will play the child version of her in the new TV series.
#NickiSurprise began trending worldwide when Minaj teased on Twitter that a big announcement was coming. The only hint the rap star gave was that the surprise was that it was “in the works for almost a year.” Tell Gossip Cop what you think about Minaj producing and co-starring in a TV show based on her life.
