Nicki Minaj Testifies: Meek Mill “Can Be Irresponsible”
Mill has been on probation since a 2009 weapons and drugs conviction, for which he served a year of house arrest. He previously violated parole last year and spent five months in prison for failing to get permission for out-of-state concerts. Now he stands accused of violating the terms again, this time for not abiding by his court-approved travel schedule.
Minaj took the stand to testify as a character witness, speaking under oath about her relationship with the the rapper. “He doesn’t have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible,” she acknowledged. “Since I’ve come in his life, I think I’ve been working on that a little bit.”
Minaj said her 28-year-old beau was “just getting accustomed to being an adult,” and stressed how she’d be affected if Mill was sentenced to time behind bars again. Referring to his probation officer, the singer-rapper said, “She’s not going to be the one sleeping alone if he goes to jail. I am.”
She added, “He’s not perfect, but I can’t believe how much he’s changed.” Mill’s defense lawyer said his client was in marriage talks with Minaj, and she herself said they are living together. She promised to help Mill follow the guidelines of his probation, including fulfilling his community service.
Mill is expected to testify on his own behalf when the hearing resumes one week from now, on December 17. Jail time remains a distinct possibility, in part because the judge is also concerned about a so-called “suspicious” urine test he submitted. Gossip Cop will have updates.
