Nicki Minaj Birthday: 5 Highlights From The Rapper’s Killer 2015
Nicki Minaj turns 33 on Tuesday, and she has a lot of reasons to celebrate. The rapper once again killed the game this year. In honor of Minaj’s birthday, Gossip Cop is taking a look back at some of the star’s highlights of 2015.
1. Nicki Found True Love
In February, Minaj and Meek Mill finally confirmed their long-rumored relationship. They spent the months afterward no longer hiding their love, but sharing it with the world. Mill showered his queen with jewelry, and doted on her when they gave sexy but sweet performances on “The Pinkprint Tour.”
2. Nicki Conquered With “The Pinkprint Tour”
In July, Minaj embarked on her first-ever headlining arena tour in America. As she crisscrossed the country, the performer sold out a number of huge venues, and each show seemed to trend on Twitter as fans used social media to dissect every moment. That helped earn her the title of one of Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainers Of The Year.
3. Nicki Had A VMAs Opening That Will Go Down In History
In August, after the MTV Video Music Awards nominations led to a miscommunication between Minaj and Taylor Swift, the two superstars teamed up for a surprise joint performance. Minaj kicked it off with “Trini Demi Girls” and “The Night Is Still Young,” before Swift shockingly joined for “Bad Blood.” The two gave new meaning to the term “girl power.”
4. Nicki Set Her Sights On The Small Screen
In September, it was announced Minaj would executive produce an ABC Family series inspired by her life. The show will give fans a look at the star’s life growing up in Queens with her immigrant family, bringing new representation to television at a time when the medium can use more diversity. Even more exciting: Minaj is handpicking the young girl who will portray her, and is expected to make some onscreen appearances of her own.
5. Nicki Scored Three More Grammy Nominations
Just one day before Minaj’s birthday, it was announced she received 2016 Grammy Awards nominations for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“Only” with Drake, Chris Brown, and Lil Wayne), Best Rap Performance (“Truffle Butter”), and Best Rap Album (The Pinkprint). That brought the star’s career total to 10 nods since 2011. Now Minaj has the chance to kick off her new year in a huge way: Winning a Grammy for the first time.
We’re only halfway through the 2010s, but Minaj is well on her way to going down as one of the artists of the decade. And now Gossip Cop sincerely wishes her a happy birthday. TELL US: Do you have a favorite Minaj moment from 2015?
