Nick Jonas: I’m Being Considered As American Idol Judge

(GettyImages.com)

Nick Jonas is in the mix to potentially join “American Idol.”

The singer confirmed the buzz in a tweet on Saturday.

Jonas wrote, “The rumors are true… I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol, and it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol.”

Not surprisingly, #nickonidol was soon a trending topic on Twitter.

It should be noted that while Jonas, Pharrell Williams and other possible additions to the judging panel have been mentioned in recent days, only Mariah Carey has been officially signed.

“American Idol” is re-tooling in the wake of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez’s nearly simultaneous departures from the show.

If Jonas or anyone else finalizes a deal, Gossip Cop will have coverage.

Would you want to see Nick Jonas join as an “Idol” judge?

I’d rather have Adam Lambert. Him and Mariah together would get me to watch the show. Nick’s alright, but it wouldn’t give me a reason to tune in.

  • Ms. Chevious

Sign of the Apocalypse. I will never watch it again if he’s on it.

  • Randomlibra

He RUINED the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables. His vice is weak, his acting is weak, and he needs to go away because his 15 minutes are UP. No Jonas on AI!!!!

  • Jen

    Uh, NO.

  • Regina1180

It would make a lot more sense to have Pharrell be a judge, he knows more about the music business and he’s helped to launch the careers of a ton of people.

  • D. Martin

I don’t know a lot about the Jonas brothers but why wouldn’t he be okay?

  • Jondolar

I won’t watch if they have Nick Jonas as a judge. He’s a child and happens to be successful at what he does. That does not qualify him as an expert to be judging others his age or older. It’s bad enough that Xfactor has Britanny Spears and Lovato. Record sales do not necessarily equal the ability to judge talent. Seriously…. this has got to be a joke. If you can’t get some heavyweights in the music industry to sit at the judges table, then shut it down

  • Justine8972

WRONG. Obviously Lovato and Spears were chosen because they’re, well, SUCCESSFUL ARTISTS. These shows spit out artists who are created to sell albums and sell out arenas for concerts. So they choose judges who have done exactly that. Not that hard to understand.

Nick is likable enough, and might get more teens/early 20′s to watch it that probably don’t know. It’s all a numbers game probably.

  • Justine8972

    **don’t watch.

  • Sorryyy

    See Smash.
And it’s voice, not vice. Obvi.

  • Lala

Oh yes because Adam Lambert is so successful and popular and has a supreme wealth of experience in the business…what a joke.

  • Randomlibra

Saw Smash, not impressed. My apologies about my typo, my keyboard needs to be replaced. In any case, he is a bad choice for American Idol.

  • Mike

Bad choice, the producers can’t be serious.

Well, that would end it for me. Really really really bad choice. Looks to me like none of the REAL talented celebs that have been in the industry for years and years aren’t interested in the job. I’m SO happy J Lo is off tho. She is without a doubt one of the vainest women I know of. AI is nearing the end now.

  • Mila

Great choice! 5 Broadway shows, Millions copies sold and he worked with great artists. He’s only 19 (soon to be 20) but he has already enough experience. People should give him a chance before judging him but sadly everytime they hear “Jonas” they only think about Disney. He’s a lot more than that.

  • Ms. Chevious

    Read Jondolar’s comment.

The original Idol judges were a producer, performer and promoter. Best combo they had.

They have a performer in Mariah Carey. She knows music and can explain to these kids how they can improve their performance. I don’t think this kid has enough experience to tell someone else how to improve.

This is just a sad attempt to get more young girls to watch. But I think this kid’s day has past.

  • Ms. Chevious

Just because someone sells a lot of units and is considered to be a SUCCESSFUL ARTIST it doesn’t mean they have any talent or have the brains to transmit the necessary information to someone else on how to succeed.

Brit-brit cannot sing without autotune. Do you really think she’s going to be a good judge ya’ll?

Ke$ha sucks big time and has made a lot of money = SUCCESSFUL ARTIST. (vomit)

The music industry is this country is in the crapper big time.

I think you’re right about this being a numbers game which is too bad because that means its not about finding good singers any more.

I’m going to go listen to my Kelly Clarkson albums now and reminisce.

PS Haven’t watched since Paula left.

  • Holly

Honestly, if Nick Jonas were to be part of the judging panel, I’d start tuning in. I’ve never watched it and I’ve never had a reason to watch it. Perhaps I’d find it a bit more appealing.

  • Brenda

    WRONG.

  • Jondolar

Duh ..I just said that being successful and selling a bunch of records does BNOT necessarily qualify someone to JUDGE. Evidently you have a problem with reading comprehension or maybe you just can’t hear from all the Nick Jonas concerts you’ve attended.
LOL Maybe they could get Jackie Evancho or Charice to judge the next American Idol. After all …………. they are both successful artist. LMAO

I’m not excited to hear about Nick Jonas as a potential judge on my favorite primetime show American Idol. I think this should go to someone who deserves the spot and have the background and knowledge. I’m excited to watch season 12 but hearing about Nick’s killing that feeling for me. I’m going to be able to enjoy my primetime shows without the hassle of commercials. I can choose to watch or skip commercials using the Auto Hop feature from Dish, which allows me to automatically skip commercials. I was excited when a couple of my coworkers at Dish showed me how it works. It’s like when you use the fast forward button on the remote, but without hitting buttons. The commercials will always be there if you want to watch them. I’m definitely happy now that I won’t be fast forwarding past my commercials only to have to skip back to the start of my next scene. This will prevent me from wearing down the batteries in my remote as quick.
