American Idol Winner Is… (VIDEO)
There’s a new “American Idol”! The winner of season 14 was revealed on Wednesday’s epic finale. Read on for the results!
As Gossip Cop reported, Clark Beckham and Nick Fradiani were announced as the two finalists on Tuesday’s show, where Jax was eliminated at the start of the episode. The two men went on to compete in three rounds, with it up to America to vote for the 2015 champion. And not just this year’s victor, but the second-to-last winner EVER, since it was confirmed earlier this week that “Idol” will be returning for just one more season.
Beckham had been the frontrunner for most of the season, though he seemed to lose favor with the judges over the last few weeks. In contrast, Fradiani steadily imrpoved, winning raves from the panel for peaking at the right time. And, without Jax, this marked the first guy-guy finale since season 8, when Kris Allen defeated Aadam Lambert. The new prize: a record deal with “Idol” mentor Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records, home of Taylor Swift and more top stars.
So, which contestant received the most votes to win it all? Fradiani was named the WINNER! Beckham was therefore the runner-up. Fradiani actually appeared stunned, and as everyone one in the Dolby Theatre went wild, he gave an emotional performance of his “winner’s single,” “Beautiful Life.”
This marks the second male winner in a row, following Caleb Johnson’s victory over Jena Irene during last year’s season 13. Johnson was on hand to present Fradiani with the “Idol” trophy. It was an amazing turn of events, considering Fradiani only auditioned at the last minute when he accompanied his girlfriend to the try-outs. His gal pal didn’t even make it past the first round, but Fradiani went on to become this year’s dark horse and, now, champion. And while it’s not the greatest consolation prize, Beckham will still get to join Fradiani and the other Top 5 contestants on this year’s “Idol” tour.
