REPORT: Twilight Could Continue After Breaking Dawn, Says Studio Chief

There’s a chance The Twilight Saga could continue after the fifth film opens in November.

The bombshell was reportedly dropped by Jon Feltheimer, the chief executive officer of Lionsgate Entertainment, which acquired Twilight studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million on Friday.

“I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Feltheimer of the final (planned) installment in the hit vampire franchise.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked whether Lionsgate could envision more Twilight past next fall’s fifth film, Feltheimer left the door open.

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” he said. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration.”

He added, “So the simple answer is, ‘Boy, I hope so.’”

It’s not clear whether a potential continuation would involve future films or a television series.

    I think Im talking for all the fanbase when Im saying HELL NO. Twilight isnt a moneymaker to us, its a ‘religion’. You dont touch it. We regret that Summit isnt responsible of the series anymore and so far, are hating Lionsgate.

    Thats ridiculous. Stephenie Meyer only made 4 books and the only reason its a huge fan based film is because of the books and teenage girls thinking theres really a vampire out there like that. lol But in all honesty I dont think its a good idea.

    What could they possibly do to expand the brand? I think they should just leave it at Breaking Dawn and be done with it. I do know that they’re making The Host into a movie

    Agreed. Besides, there aren’t any more books. The only thing they can possibly still do is Bree Tanner. Then that’s it. Stephenie decided it should end there, and so therefore it should.

    Am I the only one who says YES? I think I’m a huge enough fan to say that whether I want them to do it or not doesn’t really matter, because I think the fact of the matter is that I will go regardless of what I think, BECAUSE I am a such a HUGE fan. I honestly think that’s fair to say about the rest of us. Now, wether or not it will happen is an entirely different story. Kristen is completely doing her own thing and booking movies without any help. Taylor would definately say YES and Rob might be willing to do it because he might be afraid of the backlash. He hasn’t exactly booked large movies yet, like Kristen, so I think it’s fair to say that he wouldn’t be willing to piss anyone off.     The Twilight appeal comes from the story, doesnt depend on Robsten. The Twilight MOVIES appeal depends totally on Robert and Kristen. Their chemistry is what made this work. They are both amazing actors and I dont think they’re ever coming back to the saga, thats a closed chapter for them, and they’re working on amazing new projects with talented co-stars and working their way through Hollywood amazingly. My friend works at Barnes and Nobel and one of the complaints they got by the dozens was from Twilight fans that bought The Host without previewing. That was me. It made BILLIONS without wanting to make billions. This has to stop. There’s a point where something, as incredible as it is, has to end, and we have to assume it. Secondly, Kristen has booked SWATH as a huge movie. Thats it. OTR is a small indie that I predict to be LOVED by the critics, and she would have never done SWATH if it wasnt because of the appeal the story had to her. She chooses a role when she feels it. Rob. Rob hasnt signed on a huge movie deal. Rob has signed on two amazing movies, with a HUGE potential, and strong characters. His movie choices are spectacular.
    Both Rob and Kristen have a huge career ahead of them, their choices are amazing and will be rewarded. Taylor Im not so sure. He’s still young though.

    Really?? I loved The Host, it was so different than a lot of other stuff I read. I found it to be a little bit boring sometimes but otherwise I loved the characters. I was turned onto it by a cashier at Barnes and Noble and brought it. I loved it but yeah its def. not for everyone.

    You’re right — they may be thinking Midnight Sun but that is STILL Twilight — a story that’s already been told — just from Edward’s POV. Meyer said she wrote Midnight Sun just so she could see it side-by-side on her bookshelf. It is more about symbolism.

    I agree with what you all are saying. I LOVE Twilight — the appeal of Twilight is the STORY The story has an ending (just like Harry Potter series ) and Lionsgate needs to let it end. Besides — I think the actors are ready to move on. Even Stephenie said she’s done with vampires for a very long time. And, if the actors DON’T move on then all they’ll ever have is Twilight.

    Something you have to keep in mind — the characters are immortal — not the actors. They are getting older and Rob isn’t gonna be able to pull off 17 much longer if NOW. The only way to keep this going is to tell someone else’s story or recast the parts and I can’t see people flocking to see someone else play Edward and Bella.

    Rob was asked, if he would continue to play Edward, if he were given the opportunity. His answer was that he was getting to old to play a 17 year old vampire. One of the reasons that they filmed the films close together is because they are all growing older. I would love to see Kristen and Rob work together again but in another type of film or series.

    I wouldn’t want to see any more movies. Honestly the only one I enjoyed was twilight and that was because I saw the movie before I read the books. After reading all the books not one of the movies lived up to my expectations. Nothing to do with the acting and everything to do with the script. I would devour another novel, but a movie no. It is done with and unless Stephanie Myers writes another story and the movie company is able to get Rob and Kristen and Taylor and pretty much everyone else I wouldn’t pay money to watch it.

    I’m a fan, and think it’s a TERRIBLE idea for there to be another movie or a TV series. Sounds like Lionsgate is just trying to cash in even worse than Summit did. Summit didn’t care about production value or the quality of the screenplay, all the saw were dollar signs. They are going to ruin the entire franchise by cheapening it even more than the whole “Team” crap did.

    If they think for a second that anyone will go see a Twilight movie without Rob or Kristen, they truly are deluding themselves. I would never go and see anyone else playing Edward and Bella and would rather slit my wrists than see a Jack/Nessie movie.

    Please leave us fans with the small bit of dignity we have left, and end it with BD part 2. That is the natural ending of the series, and as much as we love seeing Rob and Kristen play those roles, we are ready to see them move on to bigger and better things.

    OK, first of all, Twilight IS NOT A RELIGION! It is a wonderful piece of Romance/Fantasy Literature for most ages, male and female alike. It’s not meant to be deep, it’s not meant to teach any moral principals, it’s meant to be fun and entertaining. That’s all! GET IT PEOPLE?!

    Now, THE ONLY WAY that Twilight would successfully continue beyond Breaking Dawn would be if Stephenie Meyer wrote more books to the Twilight Saga. Since she has made it VERY clear that she has no intention of finishing Midnight Sun or writing any other additions to the Saga any time soon, I can’t imagine there being any anymore Twilight movies coming down the grapevine that would be embraced and as well loved as the original five, and Lionsgate would be foolish to try and make any movies or TV shows any other way.

    And I’m in agreement with the rest of the fans, NO! to the TV idea. If you’re going to do something, then do it right! Let Twilight stay in the movie theatres where it belongs and with the same cast. If you can’t deliver that, then you should put all ideas of further Twilight films on the shelf and call it a day. We fans don’t care about your “bottom line” or how much the franchise makes. If it’s not pure Twilight as Stephenie has intended to be then we, THE FANS, are not interested in it one little bit, and you would be throwing good money after bad to try and force “Fake Twilight” on us. It wouldn’t fly!

    If Stephenie Meyer is going to write more Twilight books, then I’m all for more movies. But if not, no thanks. That’s the only way I’d agree with it. It just wouldn’t be the same if movies that weren’t based off the books were made. It also has to be the same cast because it wouldn’t be Twilight for me without them and it wouldn’t be right to have someone else portraying them. As for the television series, no thanks to that idea completely. It sounds cheesy and it seems like it would cheapen the series altogether. From their statement, it is clear Lionsgate doesn’t love the series itself or the characters, just the profit it has made. For me, Breaking Dawn is the end and until more books come out, if ever, it should stay that way.

    Finally! Someone with some sense! I’ve been saying that for a while. The actors are stretching it now as it is. It takes about a year or two in pre-production. When they would finally begin filming, Rob will be at least 27. And Kristen 23. Sorry, even a die hard Twilighter like me would not buy them as 17. I will mourn its passing but this must be the final chapter.

    I wouldn’t put it past the greed of Hollywood to try to continue Twilight without Stephenie Meyer. Whether that’s legal or not they may be happy to take on a legal issue for the box office profit that they hope to get. Twilight’s ending is perfect, they need to leave it alone. However, I do see a story line for Renesmee. There are a lot of paths her story line could take and we would love to see more of Jacob. If Stephenie Meyer would be on board with it the entire fan base would be on board with it.

    Summit is struggling money wise, the Twilight movies solely could not keep that production company running. It had to either merge or sell. So it’s sold to Lionsgate but both companies will still operate separately. It’s just that now Lionsgate owns Summit.

    Twilight is meant to teach moral principles, it’s overloaded with them! And given the minuscule amount of male fans, I wouldn’t characterize it as something for both men and women. With the exception of a few middle age moms, it really doesn’t have a big audience outside of teenage girls who drive up the box office by seeing it repeatedly. Those girls are a very devoted fan base that absolutely love the franchise (books, movies, etc.) and there’s nothing wrong with that. And if you’re not interested in the bottom line, why are you supporting Breaking Dawn being split into 2 movies – while the book is fat, the storyline doesn’t really support the 2 movies. Think about part 2 on film, the vampires get together for a big battle, that never happens because they all walk away afraid of Bella. You build up a climax and then completely deflate it. It worked fine in the book, but that’s not really a storyline that works well visually. If everyone is afraid of the Cullen clan now, where do you continue the storyline? Where do you get your dramatic tension from? I liked the first 3 books, but the 4th book was weak relative to the other books and didn’t leave room for the story to build. Continuing the franchise, even with Stephanie Meyer on board, can only be about the bottom line because there is nowhere for the story to go (not without ignoring the major plot points of book 4)

    Stephanie Meyer wrote the Host before Twilight. The book was critically panned and didn’t sell many copies until Twilight fans discovered it. I haven’t read it so I can’t say what I personally think about the book, but I will say the first 3 Twilight books weren’t bad. What Stephanie Meyer did particularly well was capture teenage angst in those books which isn’t easy to write well. What she did awful was reference how perfect looking Edward was on just about every page in the first Twilight book. She also didn’t fully imagine the world the world they lived in as well as she could have. Her books have their faults, but the first 3 weren’t bad. The fourth book was awful. The whole whole Jacob/Reneesme thing was creepy (and also the worst name ever given a character) and the build up to a big battle that never happens is unbelievably anticlimatic and didn’t work well – and I believe will work even less well visually so I’m guessing the reviews for Breaking Dawn part 2 will be terrible unless they take artistic license and make some changes. It’s why the 4th book was critically panned, while the first 3 had decent reviews.

    I hope in about 5 years or less after BD, Pt. 2 has been released they do a televison series of the Twilight Saga, so they can input memorable scenes in the book into the series, that were not put in the movie versions. Yes, Robert and Kristen, can be replaced on the smaller screen by actors that can be just as memorable, they did it in MASH, so they can do it again, but the two leads definitely have to have the chemistry to make Edward and Bella come alive on the small screen. I would love to see in the series the class when they have to prick their fingers for a blood sample, after the Italian excursion from the Volturi, the bedroom scene the way it should have been done like in the book, or some back stories, like Carlisle, when he was transformed into a vampire. It could definitely last about 5 years without the cast aging that much. I hope one day it does become a reality.

    as a devoted fan as i am , i say NO! don’t touch it, it’s a cult and we won’t let anyone to f”" it up. Sasha said it the best. we feed it almost religiously buying DVD and tickets to 3-5 shows, not to mention the other stuff, but com’n , it has never been about money for us. besides i don’t think Robert and Kristen will agree to star in any other Twilight project, they had enough madness with four movies..enough is enough. i am glad most of us here are on the same page:)

    They could do something with the wolves, something with Renesme and Jacob, something with the other covens and nomads and not even include the Cullens, Charlie, Rene or any of the “kids” from Forks. With the popularity and the more or less interesting story-lines of current shows such as VD, TB, Once Upon a Time, and past shows Buffy, Angel, etc., there could be a place for it. Fantasy isn’t my favorite genre but it sure beats reality TV.

    The final book Breaking Dawn doesn’t have to be the end without compromising the series. As someone who has read the series multiple times, I think though it ended well there is so much more that another book could provide. For starters, we waited all this time for Bella to get her immortality, she is a newborn in the last book. It would be fascinating to read another book telling where their lives go from here. Jacob and Renesme and even Bella and Edward. They had no time really to enjoy being immortals together with the impending battle. Not only that but it would be great to have one last battle with the voltari where they are just freakin wiped out forever. There is a lot that could still be written, and at the end of the day, it is all soley up to Stephanie… Just my two cents.

    Thats a lie and u know it. People like Twilight and would pay to see more. The only thing is its Lions Gate and they suck. I wouldn’t mind seeing more twilight movies because I love the books and movies but, kind of upset if lions gate is the one to continue it.

    ‘That’s a lie and u know it’?! Who the hell are YOU? I WOULDN’T go and see the Bree movie because I’m not interested in it. That’s my opinion and doesn’t make me a liar! ALL stories — ALL — have an ending. Including Harry Potter, The Hunger Games — all of them. Meyer said herself she did not want to drag anything out. Do I think she could have gotten one more book in? Sure. I think Bella forgave Edward too soon after New Moon and that aspect could have been explored but the author chose not to do that.

    Twilight was about Bella’s story and her story had a happy ending. I’m satisfied with that. I’m not interested that much in Bree’s story.

    i love love to see another twilight its not over in part 2 aro looks at alice and bella and says what a prize umm i dont think all confruntaion is over Stephenie Meyer! i would love to see a story about renesmee and jacob but there wouldnt be a story with out the cullens! there needs to be more!

    no. it needs to be kept as movies. i hope to god they continue the saga, and i really hope that lionsgate owning it doesn’t ruin the movies. they have done an amazing job so far and i love these movies so much. i dont want to be disappointed by them stopping the movies or ruining the movies for me. ! hope another one comes out soon !

    I think that there should be another movie, that ending of twilight left me wanting more. I adore nessie, i want to know about her future. There is a ton more to have a movie about: the volturi, jacob and nessie, even bella and edward. But as far as a tv show NO WAY! But if you make a new movie make sure you have stephenie meyer to collaborate with you,Or at the least the old directore and writer. Keep all the old actors and actresses.

    I do not believe that they will attempt to make a movie regarding midnight sun. And lionsgate has come out with A LOT of good movies, that is why they are still around. I think that the ending of breaking dawn 2 left a lot open, like when aro said we will not fight”today”. The way he said it, i fully believe that a twilight movie that is just as successful, enticing, and completely loved is fully possible.
