NeNe Leakes Quits Real Housewives Of Atlanta: “I Won’t Miss The Negativity”
NeNe Leakes announced on Monday that she’s leaving the hit Bravo show “Real Housewives of Atlanta” after nearly eight years as a cast member and she “won’t miss the negativity.” Leakes has been with the reality series since the very first episode aired back in 2008. Of her decision not to renew for season 8, Leakes said, “I just think this is the right time,” adding, “This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things.”
Leakes, who was the only remaining original cast member of the series, had been thinking for some time about leaving. “This was definitely a hard decision for me. Me and my husband [Gregg Leakes] have been going back and forth on it for weeks now,” she told People. Leakes has seemingly already begun shooting another project. “I’m actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend,” she teased. “All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny, and tell all of those one -liners that I always have said on ‘Housewives.'”
As Gossip Cop reported back in February, Leakes hinted at a possible departure while appearing on “The Meredith Vieira Show.” She told the talk show host four months ago, “I am at a point where I don’t know how much longer I can stay in this situation,” noting that seven seasons of drama and catfights had taken its toll on her.
“I won’t miss the negativity,” Leakes said on Monday of her decision. Still, Leakes admitted, “I’m not saying I’m gone forever. I’ll probably pop up and play with those girls every now and then.” Executive producer Andy Cohen left the door open for Leakes, tweeting, “We love @NeNeLeakes & she is always welcome back to the house she helped build! She’s a Real Housewife forever!!”
