Neil Patrick Harris will host his very own variety show on NBC, a rep for the star confirms to Gossip Cop. We’re told the program, which has a 10-episode commitment, will be an American version of the British favorite “Saturday Night Takeaway,” although the show will likely have a new name, and most probably not air on Saturdays. NBC closed the deal with U.K. broadcaster ITV for the series, which will air live from New York.

“All of us here at NBC have been dying to work with Neil, as we’ve watched him brilliantly host the Tonys and Emmys,” said NBC’s alternative programming president Paul Telegdy. “This series will suit his extraordinary talents perfectly. He is a versatile and thrilling talent for us to welcome into the NBC family,” he added.

Harris, the newly announced Oscars host, has previously expressed interest in doing a weekly variety show. He revealed during an interview with Howard Stern earlier this year that he turned down the chance of potentially replacing the hosts on the daily “Late Show” or “Late Late Show” on CBS, but had spoken to network executives about a variety show.

He has also been quoted as saying of the British series “Saturday Night Takeaway,” which has aired since 2002, “As I watched the show, I couldn’t stop smiling. Now that I’ve seen many seasons, my face hurts. It’s a game changer. Nothing like this has been done before, and it’s unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!”
