Neil Patrick Harris Twitter attacked veteran “Young and the Restless” actor Eric Braeden earlier today.

According to Harris’ tweet, Braeden was supposed to briefly reprise his role as Robin’s dad in an upcoming episode of “How I Met Your Mother.” But at last minute, Braeden pulled out.

That prompted Harris to tweet earlier today, “Eric Braeden is a D-Bag. the actor, (Robin’s dad) agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn’t ‘substantial’ enough.”

Harris quickly followed up with a second tweet: “We’ve recast with Ray Wise, a fantastic actor who makes any part ‘substantial’. Super excited to welcome him to the family!”

A few hours later, however, Harris regretted his terse salvo and tweeted, “Now I feel bad for the D-bag comment. Don’t know the guy personally. I’m just fiercely protective of our show.”

Feud over, right?

Nope.

Braeden then went on the offensive.

“I have been in this business for 50 years, have seen so many actors come and go – most of them never to be seen or heard from again. I suggest whoever this young fellow is that he enjoy his success and count his blessings and save his money,” Baeden said in a statement to Deadline.

He added, “My first time on [HIMYM] I enjoyed working with the writers, directors, and crew enormously. However, I did not have the pleasure of meeting most of the cast, including this fellow who put his foot in his mouth by saying what he did. It’s Christmastime and I forgive him for his transgression.”

OK, Braeden was miffed, but he’s never heard of this “young fellow” who was once Doogie Howser?

Never heard of this “young fellow” who hosted both the Emmys and the Tonys?

Braeden claimed he canceled last-minute partially because of exhaustion. “I have been overworked at Y&R... I was [also] not aware of what they wanted me to do until the day before.”

Now that you’ve read the back-and-forth between the “young fellow” and the “D-Bag,” what do you think of their exchange?

I have never met Neil Patrick Harris, but I think he is phenomenally talented! And he seems like a really nice guy in real life! Eric Braeden has been living under a rock if he has never, over all these years, heard of Neil Patrick Harris. I think he is just trying to `put Mr. Harris in his place`, in his own mind.
I HAVE met Eric Braeden on one occasion, and the feeling I had was that he was not a nice man. He seemed selfish and as if HE was at the centre of his world. Only speculation on my part, after a brief meeting, but although Mr. Harris should not have called Mr. Braeden a D-Bag, I think Mr Braeden thinks highly enough of himself that he would want more recognition and applause than a small part would warrant. Look what he did on Y & R when they wanted to write him out of the series! Plus, except for Hogan`s Heroes, in which he was quite good, he is not that great an actor.
