Neighborhood Watch Ads, Trailer Pulled in Wake of Trayvon Martin Shooting Death

Twentieth Century Fox is pulling advertisements for the upcoming comedy film Neighborhood Watch in the wake of Trayvon Martin’s death.

The unarmed Florida teen was fatally shot last month following an altercation with neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, though the exact details of what happened still remain unclear.

But because of the eerily similar nature of the Neighborhood Watch poster (see photo right), which mimics a neighborhood watch street sign that’s been damaged by bullet holes, Fox has opted to pull them from Florida theaters.

The teaser trailer, running before 21 Jump Street, has also been pulled, and both will be removed nationally in the coming weeks.

Says a Fox spokesperson, “We are very sensitive to the Trayvon Martin case, but our film is a broad alien-invasion comedy and bears absolutely no relation to the tragic events in Florida.”

“The movie, which is not scheduled for release for several months, was made and these initial marketing materials were released before this incident ever came to light,” the spokesperson continues.

The teaser materials were part of an early phase of our marketing and were never planned for long-term use. Above all else, our thoughts go out to the families touched by this terrible event,” the rep tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Neighborhood Watch, which stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill, is still slated to open July 27.

    It’s absurd that the studio has pulled all marketing for this movie. It’s a MOVIE/COMEDY not based on reality. even the average brain-dead schmo in America can tell the difference between the murder of teenager from Stiller, Vaughn, and Hill keeping watch in a slapstick comedy.

    may have heard Zimmerman bragging that I killed that so and so.
    See, I told you that I would get one. This one won’t get away like the rest.

    He was heard on the 911 tapes whispering: “There always get away!!!”

    I think that it was said that Zimmerman lied about never being arrested
    when he applied for the gun, in the first place.

    Maybe Zimmerman slapped the kids drink out of his hand, in order to
    start a fight, and he had an itchy trigger finger. Killers kill people. Who will
    this nut kill next? Maybe the Sherriff’s wife, which may be the plan.

    You do realize that you can’t just “lie” on a application for a concealed weapon. They actually run a background check. Why he was actually given the permit if he has prior convictions is confusing.

    I remember some years ago I was living in a suburb of Phila, PA. Wanted to see what would happen if I bought a gun. Asked if they do a background check. The clerk told me “Why bother” I sure hope he was the exception. It wasn’t so much I look trustworthy. I do. Please trust me. It was why bother to do background checks.
