Harry Connick Jr. Cradles Munfarid Zaidi After Standout Audition on American Idol
Munfarid Zaidi didn’t just meet his idol, Harry Connick Jr., on Wednesday’s season 13 premiere of “American Idol.” He also got held in the new judge’s arms… twice.
The Pakistani-born 19-year-old, who now lives in Texas, kicked off his audition by revealing his love for Connick. The singer-actor responded by getting out of his seat and lifting Zaidi in the air.
He then vowed to cradle the contestant if he nailed his performance. Both men amusingly and amazingly held up their end of the deal, leading to the amazing picture at right.
“This is phenomenal. Give him his ticket,” declared Connick. Fellow judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, while not Zaidi’s favorites, clearly didn’t mind. We can only imagine what Connick and Zaidi will do when they’re reunited in Hollywood Week!
As Gossip Cop has reported, this is Connick’s first season as a judge on “American Idol.” He’s appeared in past seasons as a special guest mentor. It is Urban’s inaugural run as a judge, too. Lopez, of course, is an “American Idol” veteran. She was previously on the judging panel in season 10 and season 11.
Of course, the audition episodes every season are often known for their light, amusing tone. It remains to be seen how Connick and the new panel will really do once things get going more.
