Morgan Freeman “Statement” on Newtown, Connecticut Massacre Is a Hoax

(GettyImages.com)

A statement purportedly from Morgan Freeman that blasts the media for its coverage of the Newtown, Connecticut massacre is fake.

On Saturday, a lengthy comment — allegedly from the actor — began circulating on social media sites.

In it, Morgan allegedly slams news outlets, specifically CNN and Fox News, for the attention paid to gunman Adam Lanza, who horrifyingly killed 26 people — 20 of them children — at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday.

The statement attempts to correlate the rise in mass killings with the media’s focus on the person or people responsible, saying, “It’s because of the way the media reports it. Turn on the news and see how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities.”

“So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or maternity ward next,” the comment reads, imploring people to “help by turning off the news.”

But a rep for Morgan tells Gossip Cop that he NEVER wrote the statement, much less posted it online.

Morgan’s camp is unsure how the diatribe became attributed to him, telling us, “The fact that he did not do this or had knowledge of [it] speaks volumes.”

This is reason #12097 that I hate Facebook. This was all over this weekend and I just knew it was crap.

It still is true that the media should not sensationalize the killers!

Too bad. It was a great statement!

There is no way to win this. If you are monitoring the situacion with daily coverage you are giving murderer attention he wanted( not in this case as he is dead), and if you are ignoring it,,deliberately avoiding touch the subject, you will be accused of ignorance, being cold hearted , shallow, and obsessed only with power and success as with people who represent that. Public will simply feel that such a tragedy did not have any impact on you as it was not even worth to cover it.
I would not focus on gunman though, but who was behind him and who will benefit from this tragedy.
    I don’t believe on coincidences.

I give props to whoever wrote that statement because it’s all true. Even though Morgan Freeman didn’t write that, it still sounded like something that he would say.

Hoax or no hoax, it still makes some very good points, whoever wrote it.

  • dannehlicious

Regardless of if he wrote it or not, I completely agree with what it had said.

the media gives too much attention to the killer and that’s why this will never stop! geeks who know they will never amount to anything in life would rather do something crazy then kill them selves hoping one day Hollywood will make a movie about them! and most of the times it works!!! fucking LOOSER’S!!!!
