“Mockingjay – Part 2” Wins Box Office For Third Straight Weekend
Mockingjay – Part 2 continues to fly high over the box office competition, with the film winning its third weekend in a row. As Gossip Cop reported, last month the final film in The Hunger Games franchise had the smallest debut of any of the series’ adaptations. But it’s continuing to defeat all other movies, both new and old. For this weekend, Mockingjay – Part 2 earned $18.6 million to take the top spot.
Krampus, a new Christmas-themed horror-comedy flick, came in second place with $16 million, while the Rocky spinoff, Creed, edged out the competition for third place with $15.5 million. Coming in a close fourth place and a very distant fifth were Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur and the latest James Bond movie Spectre with $15.4 million and $5.4 million, respectively.
The Night Before made it into the Top 10 by nabbing sixth place with ticket sales of $4.9 million. That was followed by seventh place finisher The Peanuts Movie, which raked in $3.5 million. Spotlight grabbed eighth place with $2.9 million, while Brooklyn came in ninth with $2.4 million. Rounding out the Top 10 was Secret In Their Eyes with $1.9 million.
