“Moana” Wins Box Office For Third Weekend
Moana can’t be stopped at the box office, even on a slow weekend. Get the details and full Top 10 below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, Moana is the latest animated Disney princess movie. The critically-acclaimed film has been credited for launching the career of 16-year-old Auli’i Cravalho, showing a new side of Dwayne Johnson, and giving the world new music from Lin-Manuel Miranda. Now the hit is in its third straight weekend atop the box office chart.
Moana added another $18.8 million to its haul, and while that’s a much smaller number than the last two weeks, it was enough to keep a newcomer at bay. The new star-studded comedy Office Christmas Party had to settle for a second-place opening. The movie debuted with $17.5 million, which was actually better than predicted. Dropping down to third was Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which had $10.8 million in ticket sales. Following in the number four spot with $5.6 million was Arrival. And receipts of $4.6 million put Doctor Strange in fifth place.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Allied, which nabbed sixth with $4 million. And Nocturnal Animals landed at number seven with $3.2 million. Manchester By The Sea came in eighth with $3.15 million, while Trolls secured ninth with $3.1 million. Just making it into the last slot was Hacksaw Ridge. The film earned $2.3 million.
