“Moana” Wins Box Office For Second Weekend
Moana and Fantastic Beasts continue to be the must-see movies as the holiday season kicks into high gear. Get the details, and check out the box office Top 10 below!
As Gossip Cop reported, Moana is the latest animated musical from Disney. Featuring the voices of Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, along with a score partially composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the family-friendly film won over moviegoers last weekend. In fact, it kicked Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the first in a five-film Harry Potter spinoff series, out of the top spot.
Now both popular movies are holding on to their number one and two positions, respectively. Moana had its second weekend win with a box office take of $28.4 million, while Fantastic Beasts sold $18.5 million worth of tickets in the runner-up position. Those movies were followed in third by the Amy Adams film Arrival, which made $7.3 million. Brad Pitt’s Allied secured fourth with $7 million, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange landed in fifth with $6.5 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Trolls in sixth place, with receipts of $4.6 million, while the seventh spot went to Hacksaw Ridge, with ticket sales of $3.4 million. Bad Santa 2 nabbed eighth with $3.3 million, and Incarnate came in ninth with $2.6 million. Just making it into the last slot was Almost Christmas, which shut out Manchester By The Sea. The film earned $2.5 million.
