Misty Copeland Gets Her Own Barbie Doll
Misty Copeland was honored with her very own Barbie Doll on Monday. Watch below!
The groundbreaking ballerina unveiled the new figurine modeled after her likeness on “Good Morning America,” where she was joined by young ballet dancers. Two of the girls did the big reveal, pulling away a curtain to showcase the doll to the public for the first time. “It’s so significant,” Copeland said.
She went on to explain that the doll is wearing her four-year-old “Firebird” costume to pay tribute “to the first principal role that got me to this point.” Copeland will be reprising the character soon, making for “extremely exciting” timing. The star shared that she was “hands on” in creating the toy to ensure “she really looked like a dancer, looked like me.”
“She has muscles, and calves, and thighs, and a bust. That was important to me,” Copeland said. “We’re celebrating that. It’s beauty. You can be a ballerina and look like this.”
As Gossip Cop reported, last June Copeland became the first female African-American principal in the 75-year history of the American Ballet Theatre. As for getting her own Barbie, she follows in the footsteps of celebs like Zendaya, who inspired one last fall. Check out the video below!
