VIDEO: Miss Delaware Stripped Of Crown For Being Too Old, Breaks Down In Tears
Miss Delaware Amanda Longacre has been stripped of crown for being too old, and broke down in tears talking about it on Friday’s “Today Show.” Watch the video below.
The controversial decision was made just two weeks after the 24-year-old Longacre won her state’s pageant, along with the chance to become Miss America in September. What’s the problem? Miss America says contestants must be 17 to 24 years old.
Even though Longacre doesn’t turn 25 until after the pageant (in October), and even though she says she provided Miss Delaware officials with the proper documentation showing her birth date, the pageant took away her title on Thursday and gave it to the runner-up (Brittany Lewis… who’s also 24 years old).
The Miss Delaware organizers would only say in a statement that “it was determined that Amanda Longacre exceeded the age requirement in order to be eligible to compete therefore, the Miss Delaware 2014 title is awarded to Brittany Lewis.” Longacre appeared on Friday’s “Today Show” and seemed heartbroken and baffled by the move, breaking down in tears. “It’s like they’re trying to erase me,” she told the co-hosts.
