Miss Cleo Dead: TV Psychic Dies At 53
Miss Cleo is dead. The TV psychic died on Tuesday at age 53.
Miss Cleo, whose real name was Youree Dell Harris, had been battling cancer, though it’s unclear what type. She was recently hospitalized in Palm Beach, Florida. But as her condition worsened, she was released to go into hospice care, says a rep.
The late star is best known for the Jamaican shaman persona she developed as her on-air TV personality in the late 1990s and into the early 2000s. In actuality, Miss Cleo was born in Los Angeles. But she claimed to have real psychic abilities, which she would use on informercials for the Psychic Readers Network and other channels.
The pay-per-view service allowed viewers to “call me now,” and for a fee, they would get tarot card readings over the phone. At the time, the public was unaware of her true identity, and Miss Cleo actually used a number of aliases over the years. Though the Psychic Readers Network and others were investigated for deceptive practices, leading to a massive financial settlement, she was never charged with any crime.
She later spoke about her experiences in the 2014 documentary, Hotline. Miss Cleo’s passing was first reported by TMZ. See one of the old Miss Cleo commercials below.
