“Minions” Conquers Box Office With $115.2 Million Opening Weekend
The 2015 summer box office got yet another blockbuster boost this weekend with the debut of Minions, which finished in first place and earned $115.2 million, ending the weeks-long battle between Jurassic World and Inside Out for the top spot. The animated kids film, a prequel to the family favorites Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, features a villain voiced by Sandra Bullock.
Jurassic World came in second with $18.1 million. And nabbing the third position was Inside Out with $17.1 million. Terminator Genisys secured fourth place with $13.7 million, while the new horror film The Gallows, starring Cassidy Gifford, the daughter of Kathie Lee, took fifth with $10 million.
Round out the Top 10 was Magic Mike: XXL, which had less magic than its original and came in sixth place with $9.6 million. Ted 2 followed in seventh with $5.6 million in ticket sales. The new Ryan Reynolds movie Self/Less opened in eighth place with $5.4 million. In ninth was Max with $3.4 million. And remaining in the Top 10 was final finisher Spy, with $3 million.
