Busting bad dish!

Group Blasts Miley Cyrus for “Disgusting” and “Sleazy” Behavior

(GettyImages.com)

A conservative watchdog group is slamming Miley Cyrus for what it calls “crude” and “disgusting” behavior, saying it “exemplifies sleaze” in Hollywood.

On Thursday, the Culture and Media Institute (CMI) issued an article called “Hollywood Promoting Women Behaving Badly,” in which it suggests that the onetime Hannah Montana star “has become the epitome of the anti-role model for young girls.”

Referencing Cyrus’ jokes about being a “stoner” and photos of the star celebrating her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth’s birthday with a penis-shaped cake, CMI describes Cyrus as “embracing the raunch” popularized by popular culture.

The group also criticizes Bachelorette, a racy film comedy – starring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher – that just premiered at Sundance.

“Movies like Bachelorette and disgusting behavior like Cyrus’ may be part of the ‘real world’ of Hollywood, where casual sex is celebrated and frequent divorce is almost a rite of passage,” declares CMI. “But it is not the real world, because in the real world, sleazy behavior has consequences.”

Wow.

What do you think of the group’s harsh words for Cyrus?

She has never made it a point for her image and the way she acts to be a role model, regardless if she was a Disney star or not. I’m happy that she’s able to take chances and be who she wants to be and do what she wants to do. Others may not agree, and really that’s only their problem.

  • Mfan

These people must be on some kind of drugs to criticize Miley instead of the media outlets that invade her privacy to make money on pruient content. Publicly, Miley has been fine.

  • hollo

Well first of all they don’t know what they are freaking talking about obviously. Cause girls in the real world do this and way worse stuff. I am Miley’s age and have seen worst things than this. It wasn’t even that big of a deal seriously, I honestly laughed way hard when I saw the pics. Everyone I have talked to about it feels the same way. If I had a party for one of my friends and got them a penis shaped cake like that we would probably take the same kind of pics and laugh our asses off and dance as well. So this is really the real world and CMI needs a reality check, cause the “real world” they think exists, really doesn’t.

  • Hmm

Someone has to be made an example of, I guess LOL Is it wrong that I agree with them (but don’t spend much time really caring)? I don’t care about whether she is or isn’t a role model but I do find her to be sleazy and trying too hard. Maybe if she gradually changed her behavior, it wouldn’t have been as big of a deal but I find her to be disgusting too, but more in a she-doesn’t-look-like-she-showers kind of way in her candids. They should probably go after people like the Jersey Shore morons though- people in their 20s acting like they’re 15 and having people think *that* is entertaining. That’s a bigger issue.

  • YouKnow

They obviously aren’t growing up at the same time as you and Miley. I’m only 30 but can see that growing up now is NOTHING like it used to be. It is mind-boggling that in 10 years, things have changed so drastically. Sure, teens did idiotic things but they were more like children then and now, you guys are trying to grow up too fast. Slow it down, life seriously starts flying by the older you get and you wish you could go back. Do the appropriate idiotic things at the appropriate idiotic age ahaha

  • Solarflare7

oh give miley a break already.

  • Chris R

The girl is a low talent ho. She relies on acting like a slut to get attraction from guys. Has she been the first girl to do that…nope….will she be the last…nope. She isn’t someone to aspire too. Just because she is able to get attention and make money from acting and looking like a slut isn’t a great quality to have.

  • higglty pigglty

As usual, you are posting negative crap about someone or something you have never met and really know nothing about….She is acting like a very typical 19 year old in today’s world. Having fun with her friends, at a private party. She has been with the same guy for 3 years and doesn’t seem inclined to change that. As for your comments on how she made her money….well, that is simply a naive statement or demonstrative of your personal bias on the subject and is neither true or a compelling argument since you are basing it on the reporting of numerous sites which cater to the prurient interest of the masses… while generally making up more than half of their content.

  • D. Martin

While it is true that she never tried or even stated to be a role model her behavior of late has been pretty disappointing. Me? I could care less. But her parents…I wonder what they think.

  • Amomynous

Ultimately it is my job as a parent to monitor what my 12 year old daughter is exposed to and to impress my own values upon her. I don’t rely on Hollywood or groups like this to parent for me. Incidents like these photos of Cyrus, if my daughter were to ask questions, serve as a way to parent and provide guidance to my child.

  • Regina1180

I think that what hurt her is the fact that she started out on a Disney show. Those kids have always been expected to be a symbol of pure and nice, even when they grow up. And try as she might, she IS a role model. And I think that’s why she tries so hard to be overly sexual and so anti-Disney.

  • Jooce

you lost me @ “conservative watchdog”

  • Chris R

You are quite wrong. I base my opinions on her “singing” I’ve heard, her “acting” on what I’ve seen and her behavior on the way she dresses and acts out on video and pictures that are of her.

Who cares if she is acts like a typical 19 year old, she is still acting like a slutty girl and therefore I will call her that. Why pretend she isn’t even if it’s a private party?

I’m placing an appropriate name on her based on her actions.

I think she is an awful entertainer based on what she has done.

  • cinchi

Getting penis cakes for your boyfriend is not typical 19 yo behavior (at least not with the friends I had at 19). It is fairly typical for bachelorette parties though – and that’s a pretty big distinction. The bride doesn’t pose with simulated oral sex photos for the groom as a general rule. So yes, while Miley is just having a good time and frankly the photos with the cake are pretty harmless and not a big deal, it isn’t what I would describe as particularly classy behavior. But this watchdog group sounds like they have a problem with women in general more than they do with Miley. It is worth noting that their problem is women who behave with the same liberties as men (in my world it’s gauche behavior when a man behaves that way in public just as much as it is with women). It’s also worth noting that they fail to note the amount of charity work Miley does, her talent, or her family values. They focus on her costumes and her occasional minor missteps in her personal life to launch a rather harsh attack.

IF IT LOOKS LIKE A WHORE, SMELLS LIKE A WHORE, AND ACTS LIKE A WHORE, IT’S PROBABLY BRITNEY SPEARS!

why do people rely on celebs to teach they’re kids right from wrong or to be good role models?! Its not they’re job they’re just here to entertain you thats it. It doesn’t make any sense. How about you pay a little more attention to what your kids are doing then worrying about what these celebs are doing. Be a parent to your own kids and stop worrying about what somebody else is doing or saying.

  • Dee

Thank You! These are very aplaudible parenting skills. It is frustrating when Parents rely on celebrities to raise their kids, instead of using their misteps as an opportunity to talk to their kids and help them to learn from it. No one is perfect, and expecting your kids to be perfect just because their role model is or vice versa, is extremely nieve. I think with the way times are changing it is more important to talk to openly with your kids now than ever before, and often times you will actually find that it is their close friends/peers who have the most impact on who they become as a person.

Give me a break! Her job is to be an entertainer not a role model. Sure she is in the spotlight which is kind of a given that people will look up to her but she shouldn’t have to censor herself because of groups watching her like a hound dog. She is young. I am 26 and I acted stupid and immature at her age. When she signed up to be on tv she was very young so I highly doubt she thought that she was going to be a role model. She wants to be an actress/singer which unfortunately comes with the media shining a spotlight on everything she does and glorifying normally young adult behavior.

The fact of the matter is PARENTS should ultimately be a kids role model. If you are a good parent and raise your children properly you can use the behaviors of young celebrities making wrong choices and explain to them the ramifications of these actions and the consequences. It should be used as a parenting tool. Censor your children from watching certain programs if you believe they aren’t age appropriate (aka. parents that let their kids in middle school/teenagers watch Jersey Shore). Parents need to take care of their children and vocalize this information displayed in the media. Having a good healthy relationship with good communication can prevent teenagers and young adults from acting out. REMEMBER she is still a kid. Give her a break and leave her alone. How would you feel if you were scrutinized for every single thing you did at that age? It makes it worse!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XRFXDPRS5L65V5YGFTJIMTYKZI brittany s

Couldn’t have said it better! Everyone wants to blame the media for kids acting out and being sexual at a young age. It is the parent’s fault because they need to have good communication with their kids.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XRFXDPRS5L65V5YGFTJIMTYKZI brittany s

It’s disgusting that you would reference a 19 year old as a slut. How would you feel if you had a 19 year old daughter and people were calling her a slut for her wardrobe choices? Girls try to get attention (usually when they don’t have parents that built up their confidence growing up) not to mention hormonal changes and the fact that guys are so eager to drool at them.

It is inappropriate to talk about a young girl like that which shows that you are no better yourself. Furthermore, just because you dress skimpy or “trashy” does not make her a slut. I know someone that was a virgin until she got married and used to dress like that. Think about how the child was raised and you will see why they dress like that. Stop judging people and worry about yourself. It is obnoxious people like you that criticize a child for her choice of clothing and make it a big deal. If you are a parent and you are worried about how it effects your kids then BE A PARENT!

And your opinions are simply that “OPINIONS.” She obviously has an enormous fan base otherwise she would have been on TV and in movies for years and have a singing career. You may not like her but millions of people do.

  • Mama2Jude1112

I whole heartedly agree with you!

  • whatever

As much as I agree that parents pay an important role in a child’s upbringing, you can’t deny that peer pressure and role models do play an important role too.Maybe not as significant but at least to a certain degree. Children do imitate those they admire and look up to, just like how some of us look to certain celebrity fashion stylings. So, having a role model with questionable behaviour does play a larger role than we may think. Hopefully the kids are smart enough to make good descisions, but you know that’s easier said than done..

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I agree with you 100%

  • http://www.facebook.com/laquitathodge Laquita T. Hodge

I agree with many comments on her. She stated that she’s not trying to be a role model because she’s not fit to be one, she makes mistakes & is slowly learning from them. She also said that it’s the parents job to be role models to their kids, not kid actors/singers. The girl has been with the same guy for like 3 years & why does anyone care if she gave him a penis cake? He probably thought it was funny. To be honest, I’d want my child to look up to someone who makes mistakes & owns up to them, not someone who acts perfect & claims to be. Miley finally gets to be herself, she said that this was who she was, but people still think that she’s Hannah Montana when that was just a character she portrayed. One thing about Miley though, she’s never been arrested for drugs or DUI so I think she’s doing something right. It’s better she make minor mistakes now while she’s young & learn from them, rather making major mistakes later and not learn from anything.

  • Chris R

Um 19>18….18 equals (legally) adult. Therefore she is no child.

She dresses like a slut and acts like one…why hide the issue. She didn’t do any of this by accident.

Big fan base does not equal talent. Two different things.

Wish people would stop sugar coating actions of (adults) in this case and let a spade be called a spade.

She (whether she wants too or not) sets an example…a poor one of how to act. Sorry but her FAN base is typical young girls who saw her on Disney and do look up to her. Parents need to tell their kids not follow the lead of scum like her, but as a human I would expect she would figure all this out (as should everyone else…Hollywood or not) and act like a decent person.

My words are harsh to get the attention of people who say “so what” and “it doesn’t matter”. It does matter.

Unfortunately this won’t be the last to be in her shoes, but you have to keep trying to wake up the masses to what is wrong.

  • Taylorb_03

Oh please!!! She acts like 90% of all teenagers out there! The only difference here is that she has nosey a** people all up in her business recording every minute of it. Just let her be a teenager… Most of us did crazy things when we were her age that our parents wouldn’t want to know about even to this day.

  • Anonymous

im not a big fan of miley cyrus… but come on she’s human, she acts like a normal young adult with those kind of things, she’s not even the only person to do that. there’s more people who do things much much worse than her… just watch jersey shore.

  • Brook

Im a moderate and try to look at every side of the coin. A penis cake is appropriate for a bachellorrette party hopefully when your in your mid late twenties or older. Our children are growing up to fast and a lot of that is because of what they see on tv. We need to do something about the language and actions that are being displayed on tv. Yes we need to parent, but tv use to be a whole lot wholesome and its getting out of control. Children will sneak a forbidden show once in awhile or watch it at a friends house. I am more liberal than anything and being cool or in the in crowd matters to kids. We need to lobby for better standards on tv. Every generation seems to know and learn things at earlier and earlier ages. Children need to be children and stop growing up so fast. Hollywood is giving us what they think we want. Its time to stand up for our children and tell Hollywood to stop pushing the envelope for ratings.

  • V.

i think those ppl should read statistics showing that the average sex initiation for american women is 14 years old.. how about those parents stop worrying about the celebrities image and more about how they educate their daughters

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=658361960 Elle O’Elle

they just need to get off her dick already.

  • Frannie

She’s ignorant too. Disgusting & ignorant and trashy and trying way too hard. I don’t know if she thinks she’ll be taken seriously, but obscene displays for the camera won’t get her serious acting work. Why don’t they just crawl back under the Tennessee rock from whence they came???

  • Bobspics

Well, Frannie.. apparently you are knowledgeable on the subject of disgusting & ignorant and trashy.. maybe if you got out from under your rock of stupidity (in what ever state it is hiding.. ) you would grow up, then you would let this teenager grow up.. without your words of encouragement.

  • Christine

Is it really up to you how Miley ought to dress and act, Chris? Are you the Almighty Judge of Behavior and Apparel? Last I heard, that job belonged to someone else, someone who’s probably a little more significant than yourself. So you might want to shut that presumptuous little mouth of yours, dear – you’re making my eyes bleed.
